I have a RVND 7710 in the coach & like it so well that I bought it's smaller brother, the RVND 5510 for the Ford Explorer Toad.

Have NOT been able to lock onto any GPS satellites & believe the problem is the Metallic black dots embedded in the windshield.

I see that both units have external GPS antenna ports. Does anyone know what GPS external antennas are compatible?

And what is the correct external antenna connector it is???

I think it is a MMCX? Male or female????

Anyone have & use an external antenna, what's the Make & model, and where did you get it??? Rand McNally Website/Store is totally useless.

Well, the external antenna came from DieselBoss yesterday.  After fooling around with it & the 5510, I have concluded the GPS receiver in the 5510 is dead or faulty.  Tomorrow we will see if Rand's warranty is worth a darn.

I looked on my 7710 and didn't see an antenna jack.

Contacted Rand & got an RMA started.  Went back to their Richmond, KY repair/RMA center yesterday.  Will post results when repaired/replacement unit gets returned.

Just got a notice from Rand, replacement unit shipping back to me 1/23/14.  Three cheers to Rand.  Will post the replacement unit's performance once it arrives.
