Tow - Motorcycle Trike Plus Small Car

We will start RVing full time this summer and are very excited to start this new life style!  We want to tow motorcycle trike and also have a car.  Suggestions on towing?  We have also considered towing the trike, selling the car and renting a car, as needed, as we travel across country.  Has anyone rented vehicles while RVing?  Thanks for your suggestions.

We just got back from a 5 week RV excursion and we rented cars during the voyage.  There are pros and cons of course.  Pros: 1) it was nice not to have something to pull/tow behind us, 2) greater maneuverability due to the shorter overall length,  3) We didn't have to clean the car after we unloaded our wood, 4) no additional mileage/wear n' tear on our own vehicle, 5) rented cars that were smaller and more economical than our Toyota Tundra.  The cons: 1) having to locate a rental agency within a reasonable distance to the campgrounds, 2) the time required to pick up and drop off the vehicle, 3) the cost to rent a vehicle (this money could be applied to the cost of obtaining tow equipment for a toad), 4) inability to just "get in the car and go " shopping/sight-seeing, etc.  Having your trike will definitely give you more flexibility and freedom.  If the weather's nasty-rent the car - lol.  Have a terrific journey!

We had our hitch system upgraded to tow our Dodge Ram with a Honda GL1800 Trike in the back. approximately 25,000 miles with no issues other than 1 tire on towed vehicle. I did have to compensate "stuff" to account for the extra weight. I use a Rampage motorcycle lift with trike kit. http://www.rampagelift.com/index.html

Very interesting, we also have an 1800 trike and have wanted to do the same but didn't think the trike would fit in a p/u truck.

Do you have any pictures you could post?

I have a hydralift for the 03 Ultra. Had an incident where the installer put the front chock too far forward and when driving on the crappy I4 section through Orlando, the bike came out of the chock and fell over about 60 degrees or so although there were six tie downs on it. Bent the front forward tie down and the front portion of the aluminum ramp.  Although Hydralift would not work with me on discounted replacement parts (they stated it was installed incorrectly by the selling dealer) of $300, replace those parts, moved the chock forward and have had no issues since. I now "lash" the front tire to the chock, rear tire "lashed" downward onto the ramp in addition to the normal tie down points. The bike will NOT move an inch now!

All that said, the intent is to replace the Ultra w/a trike w/in two years and tow the Ram 4X4 w/trike in the back of it (see Load All ramps) and repurpose the Hydralift to carry a kangacart (400lbs).  Note that the Hydralift w/platform will cut down a bit on your turning radius, so my intent is to get an extension for the tow bar in order to provide more clearance for the truck hood/front end. Pic show tweaked front tie down bar after bike fell over.
