  1. Update on the hinge. got on the Discovery board and found a guy who made a die for the hinge. Now made of steel and aluminum. Still pricey but $400 for 3 hinges is better than $210 for one. Better quality than the original. I still have 8 salvage yards looking for them, but if no word in next 2 weeks the I will buy the new ones.
  2. Harry, Thanks, I joined it about 2 weeks ago but just got my membership packet and access to the forums. I got on it this morning but it's hard to do at work. That is my first stop tonight when I get home. Vic
  3. Herman, Apparently the screen door was removed/replaced in the past and the screws were put back in at an angle. Having the effect of a wedge in between the door and door frame and broke the hinge. From the look of it, it has been broken for some time. I have corrected the problem. I think! I have no door stop other than the compression strut (like a hood prop on a car). I need to rectify that also. This Rv was given to me by my parents and it sat in the driveway for just over 2yrs. As we all know it is not good for RV's to sit un-used, little things start to happen. So I am just beginning to repair/replace and modify things. I have learned so much from this board and others like it. Thank you to everyone that responds for being understanding of dumb greenhorn questions. Happy RVing Vic
  4. Thanks for the info I will search today when I get off work. Also good point on the number of vehicles vs coaches, I hadn't thought of that. Duh? Well good thing I don't claim to be intelligent. Haha! Vic
  5. As deltadonnie stated try to sell your rig outright. The dealership is only giving you 90k on paper. That's NOT what you are really getting for it. My guess is considerably less. Where they will get you is in the financing and the service contracts. Try to get your own bank to finance and use the money from the sale of your rig for down money. Good luck!
  6. On cars & light duty trucks you should always use the recirculation setting on hot days. It is easer to cool cabin temps that are 60-90 degrees down to 45 than it is to cool 125+ degrees down to 45 with fresh air. fresh air usually comes from the inlet ducts around the engine compartment. Having said that the A/C in my coach only gets about 48-52 degrees with recirc. 10-15+ degrees hotter on fresh air. The curtain works wonders. However I have also fired up the generator and driven with the front house unit on with no problems. I just don't like a curtain behind me.
  7. Hey everyone. I need a little help finding an entry door hinge for my 1999 Fleetwood Discovery 36T. The upper hinge has broken where it attaches to the door frame. I called the local Fleetwood dealer. They quoted a price of $207.35, this thing is aluminum. I was told that it was redesigned and made of steel and aluminum. For now I have swapped the middle hinge with the upper to balance the weight of the door however, this is a temporary fix. I work at a car dealership and a hinge for a full size truck doesn't cost this much and it is solid steel. Does anyone know where I can find one on my own or am I going to have to get creative and fabricate one? Thanks in advance. Vic
  8. I by no means am savy on what should be checked. However, I do know sales and that is only about 26% from MSRP. 30% would put you in the 217k ballpark. personally I would try for 30-33%. that is significantly better reduction in price. Like the TButler stated above you're in the drivers seat (all pun intended. haha!) Just my .02 worth. vic
  9. Thanks for the reply. I went out again last night and found no coolant filter. As I said I work at a car dealership (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep) so I have alot of experience with or have technician that can maintain/repair the 5.9L Cummins. I didn't think mine had one but I'm new to the MH scene. Thanks again Vic
  10. I just got a 1999 Discovery. 5.9L I & Allison 6 speed. I work at a car dealership as a service writer. However, I have been working on vehicle all my life. I have problems doing my own work/repairs to a certain extent. I replaced the waterpump and serp belt. I plan on doing my own Oil & Filter, Air, Fuel & Transmission Fluid and Filter changes. However. I saw in the above comments, something about a coolant filter. I have checked all over my engine and do not see one. I've never heard of a coolant filter before, however, that's not saying there isn't one. Any ideas how I can tell if my MH has a coolant filter and where it might be located? Thanks Vic

    Mixed tire sizes

Thanks for the info. I believe I am going to put 2 on the front and replaced a pair over the next 6-10 months that will get me in a good rotation cycle. I am not a full timer (yet) but plan on using it alot on weekends within 3-4 hrs from home. This will make it easy to maintain tires and other maintenance for now. Thank you guys alot for the info. Vic

    Mixed tire sizes

I have a 1999 Discovery 36T, 5.9L Cummins, Allison 6 sp, It has 5 Michelin XRV 235/80R22.5 and one XZE (same size inside rear)of various ages from 3903 to 2407. I was given this RV by my parents and I need to replace 2 tires minimum, maybe three. I plan on changing tire size to 245/75R22.5 and going with Toyo. At minimum I will replace both fronts. If needed would it hurt keep the 2 newest Mich's on the inside of rear duals and put 2 new Toyo's on the outside. Load specs are the same as the Michelins but the revs/mile are 556 for the Mich and 561 for the Toyo. Does this matter? What damage can be done? Should I wait and replace in pairs the rear as sugested by tbutler in another post? Thanks in advance for answers. Vic Gibson
