  1. In compiling information for the annual towables guide that will appear in the January 2015 issue, FMC magazine has learned that the 2015 Honda CR-V is not towable four wheels down behind a motorhome. Here is an explanation from Chris Martin in Honda’s Western Region public relations office:

"With the addition of CVT transmissions to both the Fit and the CR-V, our automatic transmission dinghy towing options disappeared. At this point, among all Honda vehicles, only the 2015 Fit with manual transmission has been tested for dinghy towing. There is no manual transmission option for the CR-V. I wish I had better news for your readers."

  2. Some pages of FMCA.com, mainly those that involve member records or transaction processes, will be down for maintenance from June 27 to July 7. But, the FMCA Motorhome Forums site – http://community.fmca.com/index -- will remain accessible.

However, because the Forums uses a single-sign-on method that bridges from FMCA.com to the Forums site, users might not be able to sign in during this time.

At this point, we can’t say for certain how the downtime will affect users who remain signed in from a previous session.

    We suggest:

    • If you are not signed in to FMCA.com, sign in before June 27.
    • Bookmark the Forums site -- http://community.fmca.com/index.
    • When you leave the site, do NOT sign out.
    • FMCA.com will not be fully functional, so you will not be able to get to the Forums from there. Instead, use the bookmark or enter the http://community.fmca.com/index URL in your browser address bar to go to the site.

In the best-case scenario, the site will “remember” you from the previous browser session and you will be signed in and can post, etc.

The purpose of the downtime is to allow time for the implementation of a new membership management and customer relations software system. It will affect all departments at the national office, and how we manage the daily business of the association. We are replacing an entire accounting system and undergoing a software conversion, simultaneously. To make sure transactions from the old accounting system reconcile with the new, we must suspend new orders from going in to the system.

We apologize for this temporary shutdown. Behind the scenes, FMCA will be more of a well-oiled – and modern -- machine, as a result.

  3. The RV Driving Safety Program is offered at FMCA conventions, including the Perry, Ga., event this month. The Recreation Vehicle Safety & Education Foundation (RVSEF) presents the course, which is divided into two sessions of three hours each. The program has received rave reviews from FMCA members.

Here's an article about the program, from a few years back: The RV Safe Driving Course.

Various seminars related to diesel engines also are offered at FMCA conventions.

  4. Family registration is now available for FMCA's Perry, Ga., 2014 Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase, which will be held March 17 to 20, 2014, at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricetner in Perry, Ga.

  5. "Rich history," "warm hospitality," "strong commitment to community" ... Yes, FMCA fits that description.

It's great to hear you're enjoying FMCA -- the benefits and the bonds among motorhome owners that it promotes.

This brings to mind a famous line from a famous film, albeit slightly altered here: "We hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

  6. Thanks for participating

... there are many things to learn from here and can gain experience and knowledge from different topics.
    Thanks a lot!
    Rick Warren

That's exactly we're here, Rick. Thanks for participating. We hope you like it here.

This is a good time to remind everyone of a few Before You Post guidelines, particularly regarding topic titles. Be distinct and meaningful in your titles so others can find topics and answers more easily.

  7. Kirwan Elmers joined FMCA in 1963 as a charter member. In 1955 he co-founded Custom Coach Corporation with his father, and the company has converted motor coaches for celebrities Lee Greenwood, Johnny Cash, Clint Eastwood, John Madden and many others.

Elmers will be inducted into the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Ind., in August.

    Congratulations!

  8. FMCA members: Guess the number of jelly beans in a photo, and you could win a Kindle Fire!

FMCA is holding this contest in March, April and May, and will award a Kindle Fire each month.

The contest is for FMCA members only.

Maybe you're good at figuring displacement and factoring in size/shape and in-between spacing. Or, maybe you're just plain lucky. Either way, submit your guess now. http://www.fmca.com/jellybeans

  9. Are you going to the Super Bowl? Thousands of football fans and excited tailgaters (both with tickets and without) are heading to New Orleans to watch the Big Game or just soak in the Super Bowl experience.

FMCA would like to hear from members who are driving their motorhome to The Big Easy for the game.

We are working with reporters from national outlets and your hometown TV stations and newspapers to develop stories about FMCA members taking The Real Road to the Super Bowl.

If you are RVing by yourself, with a group of friends, or with a chapter, let us know. You could be sharing your story with local and national reporters, which will add to the thrill of your trip.

    Send an e-mail to jyeatts@fmca.com or call (800) 543-3622.

  11. So I have made my reservations paid ... FMCA got my money for electricity but I may not get it? How can I reserve a spot even if I have to pay for a couple days Mon & Tues to make sure I get electricity.

If you purchase electric, you will have it when you arrive, no matter when you get there.

  12. There have been several inquiries to the FMCA Office as to whether the new RETROACTIVE regulations in California on diesel engines apply to motorhomes.

    The answer is NO.

Scroll down to: Truck and Bus Regulation FAQs

    FAQ #9 reads:

Are any vehicles exempt from the Truck and Bus Regulation?

Certain vehicles are exempt from the Truck and Bus Regulation, and are not subject to any requirements. Examples include certain personal trucks with a pick-up bed used exclusively for personal use, motorhomes, emergency vehicles, historic vehicles, and military tactical vehicles. Please see Page 1, Section C of the

Truck and Bus Regulation for the entire list of exempt vehicles.

  13. Just a reminder that FMCA dues renewal statements and membership cards now are being sent to members along with their copy of Family Motor Coaching magazine.

The dues renewal notice will be inside the plastic wrapper that encases the magazine, much like traditional magazine publishers do for your subscription renewal notification. New member cards are being sent this way as well now.

This process is intended to improve efficiency and also to save FMCA money, especially for postage expenses. The exception would be those of you who have chosen not to have your magazine sent to your mail forwarding address. In that case, renewal notices will be delivered to you solo.

One note about the renewal process: It would greatly assist FMCA if you could renew at the earliest possible time. This will help the association to avoid the expense of sending multiple notices. The label on each issue of the magazine also includes your membership expiration date, so that should help you to keep an eye on when it’s time to renew.

Renew online at FMCA.com; by postal mail; or by calling the FMCA national office at (513) 474-3622 or (800) 543-3622 during business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
