  1. Changing the topic but I just wanted to say thank all of you for your questions and comments. They are all interesting and I’ve been reading them for years. I don’t have much to comment on or much less offer advice but you all seem to have a wealth of information. Thanks to the forum also for keeping the Hermanmullins name line.

    New tires

Thanks again for the comments regarding Yellowstone. We will be leaving Saturday and going to Rapid City and staying at Ellsworth AFB for a few days then on to Gardiner, Mt which is north of the North Gate. We have been checking the Yellowstone web site daily and things look good. We hope to go rafting and I bet the water will be cold. We have reservations at a park in Gardiner for the 11th to the 18th. I love that area. That is how I got drafted in 1965. I dropped out of college in Chicago in 1964 to work on a 40,000 acre cattle ranch SE of Billings and so much fun I didn’t return to Chicago until Christmas.I lost my school deferment and wound up in the Army. Twenty seven years later retired as a LTC..

    New tires

I’m getting new tires for my Fleetwood Providence 40 K 2011. I’ve gotten the choices down to two. Six balanced and installed Michelin 275/70R22.5. X I Z. FOR $5000.00. Manufacture date unknown at this time. Or, six balanced and installed Goodyear 275/70R22.5. RV MRT for $4100. Manufacture date June22. I’m in a western suburb of Chicago. Opinions and suggestions please.I know the warranty starts on date of installation..Does sitting in a warehouse for a year make a difference other than ‘not new’..I’m 80 years old and probably won’t be running out the warranty.
  5. You can easily spend a week. If at all possible get to the bottom, hike if you can or take a mule.
  6. I have a 2002 Pace Arrow that I bought used about 10 years and live in the western suburbs of Chicago. I store the RV in an outdoor storage lot and this year I started thinking about raising the coach on its jacks to take the weight off the tires in sub-zero weather and if I would/should do that , what should I spray on the jack cylinder?
  7. With all the bad news lately, I though that I would share some of my own and give you all something to laugh at. Yesterday I brought my 2002 Pace Arrow to my house from storage to clean and replace the fresh water. I hooked up the hose, turned the water on and starting cleaning and moving things into the house. While inside I got a cup of coffee and relaxed for a minute and then went back outside to find water coming out from under the RV. I thought it was coming from the overflow and thought "wow" that was fast. WRONG...I had hooked up the hose to the Blackwater spray washer and it filled and backed up and overflowed the toilet. Lots of screaming and cussing and now lots of cleaning and scrubbing.
  8. About four years ago I had the same problem refrigerator would not get cold, freezer was fine. It was determined that the door seals were bad. The problem is that you can't replace just the seals, you have to replace the entire door which was very expensive. I was still covered on an extended warranty and for about $700.00 I replaced the entire unit.
  9. Hi...If you happen to be retired military or otherwise qualified, Great Lake Navy Station has beautiful right on the beach just north of Chicago with excellent train transportation. West of Chicago in North Elgin is a county forest preserve (Paul Wolfe campground) A beautiful place and safe to return to after a day of sightseeing. Excellent FRY and train connections. Feel free to contact me @ singlesix1973@att.net.
  10. Thank you all for the replies. We decided to just have thePost Office forward it. Thanks again
  11. Hi all and a Happy New Year. We are getting ready to leave the Chicago area soon and head down to Florida for about six weeks. Can anyone give me any input on using a Co. called 'Dakotapost' for mail forwarding. Any comments or other recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks
  12. Thanks for the replies.I have been with USAA since 1966 and very satisfied. I have a 2002 Pace Arrow with USAA along with 3 vehicles and roadside assistance. Never gave it a second thought until I started readind about all the conflicts that people have with the other co's. I called USAA about roadside assistance and they said not to worry...I won't. Thanks all
  13. Hi, I can't find any old comments so I'll ask: Does anyone have any experience with the roadside assistance provided by USAA? Thanks. Bob
  14. If you happen to be retired military, there are two locations in Los Alamitos and Seal Beach. Right next to Long Beach and great for getting around the LA area.
  15. Ditto on replacing entire fuel line to gen from tank. Had the same problem on my Onan on a 2002 Pace Arrow. It was a dry rotted fuel line near the gas tank. Dropped the tank, replaced line and problem fixed.
  16. Welcome...go to 'US Military Campgrounds and RV parks'. It is a great reference point.
  17. I purchased a 2002 Pace Arrow three years ago from Camping World and at the time purchased a 4yr/48,000 extended warranty thru them. Absolutely no problems wth it at all, regardless of who does the work. I believe it is now the same as GoodSam as they have merged.
  18. Rich, thanks again for your quick reply. actually, after Camping World rewired the breakers properly, they both run fine with the engine running. That problem (the a/c) shutting down when I started the engine only started after they fixed the gas line. She is fine now. I just had a hard time trying to figure out why and you were the only person with the answer. Thank You. Bob
  19. Rich...thank you for your quick reply...OK, so now I understand the gas problem, but I'm still confused about the generator. #1 why would the generator support the a/c until I started the engine and then begin to shed...with only one unit operating and #2, I have always been able to operate both units on shore power along with a washer and dryer with no problems. Thanks, Bob
  20. Okay, here it is. Please bear with the long narrative but I'm very confused. I have a 2002 Pace Arrow purchased used 3 years ago and have put about 15,000 miles on it. In July we went to Cedar Point, Ohio for a week and stayed at a KOA where I was had electric hookup. While getting ready to leave, my generator wouldn't start. I checked everything but was not getting any gas to the generator. I checked the in line filter but nothing was coming out of the tank. The fuel pump was working fine and yes, I had 3/4 tank of gas in the RV. Gave up and headed home with 3 adults, 2 grandchildren and 4 dogs with only the dash a/c working. Quite warm. Upon returning to Chicago, I immediately brought it to Camping World of Island Lake (where I had purchased it and where it had been originally sold). Prior to getting there, I topped off the gas tank and one last time I tried starting the generator...it started. Left it there for service and was told that the gas line leading into the tank was dry rotted and couldn't suck gas. I was told that the fuel line entered the tank from the top and connected to a metal fill tube that went into the tank about 3/4 down which kept it from running empty with the generator. OK, but why did it start when I had topped it off. They had no explanation. They had to drop the gas tank in order to replace the line. So, now I pick up the RV and head to Wisconsin for a few days...I start the generator in order to run the coach a/c while driving. As soon as I start the engine, the a/c begins to shed and won't work, The fan and heater work on the unit but it won't handle the a/c. I return it for service and after a few days pick it up and was told that the circuit breakers on the generator had been wired incorrectly and now it was fixed. I had only been operating on 30 amps and now both breakers 30 and 20 were properly hooked up. From the beginning, 3 years ago, I was told I could only run 1 of the 2 roof units while on the generator. Now I can run both at the same time and they are running fine. I thought my r/v was a 30 amp...the shore plug is a 30 amp...now apparently I am running 50 amp on the generator. Now if that isn't enough, on the way home, I stop to top off the tank and after getting to about 3/4 full I'm at the pump and I start spilling gas from somewhere under the rv, probably the vent.......Oh the joy. It is going in Monday locally for oil change, etc, and they will check the gas tank. I like and trust Camping World and will continue to go there but nobody could explain these problems to me. I have a Onan Marquis gold 5500 generator and the RV is on a workhorse chassis. Please, can someone explain to me what happened...Thank You
  21. Hi again...it is A&E systems by Dometic...I don't know the model #. It is a pull down, with locking tabs and a screw knob tightener on each strut. It has a lock on the roller on the right end that self engages when it is rolled up...you have to unlock it when you want to pull it down. Thanks, Bob
  22. OK, so I was traveling south on I65 in Indiana last Sunday and got hit with very strong winds gusting to 50mph. Two miles north of the closest exit and already being blown sideways (2002 pace arrow 35g). I heard a loud noise and felt as though I was going to tip over...my awning had unrolled about 6 feet and was blowing over the top creating a sail. There i was para-sailing down the highway almost on my side. Pulled onto the shoulder and nursed it to the exit and a truck stop. With the wind blowing as strong as it was there was nothing I could do so a parked between two semis and rode out the storm until morning. In the morning a driver helped me unroll it and then got it back in place. Don't want that to happen again, any suggestions? Thanks, bob
  23. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions...thanks,mable
