  1. I was surprised after I switched over to Verizon prepaid unlimited to find that the unlimited plan does not allow you to use your phone as a hotspot.  The 8GB plan does allow it so I switched to it.  This month (April) they are offering the 8gb plan with an extra 7gb (15 total) for the life of your plan. So we have two phone with a total of 30gb.  I opted for auto pay to save an additional $10 so my total bill with PA taxes is $81 and some change.

I also lost the ability to see any of my past bills on Verizon.  I am going to work some more on that today.

  2. I gave up on sprint today. I came on the  forum to see how to cancel.  Tech support was reading from the Franklin owners manual.  I have had little to no internet for almost a month but the coverage map says excellent 4g.   I just went with Verizon Prepaid.  Thanks for the info on it. I have sent an email to FMCA so I know they will help me cancel so you need not reply with that info.  Just sharing my opinion.

  3. Welcome to the FMCA forum! I have the same 340hp Cummins and a 2500 Allison in my Bounder. My electronic fan clutch was bad. It is an all too often problem for the Freightliner installed fan clutch. I was able to get Freightliner pay for the part and I paid for the labor. As for dropping from 65 to 40 on hills, I think if the hill is steep enough, that will happen. You can try lowering your gear to raise the rpm which will keep it cooler and may help maintain you speed a bit but you will still lose speed on hills.

Good luck and I'm sure there will be many more comments.

And get your coach weighed on each wheel position to make sure your not over weight and you can balance your load.

  4. I am a full timer, my coach is my home. I have nothing against the Canadian people or the country as a whole. I disagree with their gun laws. My feeling is there should be a method US citizens could travel from the lower USA to Alaska and vice versa by declaring their weapons at each boarder crossing. They should be able to be transported as they can in the USA (unloaded, locked in cases and separate from ammunition).

Not to accuse anyone specifically, but I am sure there are those that would be quick to accuse this couple of "smuggling" that have also snuck food into theaters, or booze on airplanes etc. Of course they will say it is not the same as guns, but really, someone trying to cover a few hundred miles with their legally owned possession hidden in a closet to avoid shipping a FFA paperwork costs are called smugglers? Then all the above is smuggling...look it up.

You don't like guns, fine. Don't buy one. But I haven't seen any reports of a motorhome or 5th wheel rolling up in the 'hood, or to a school, or a movie theater and selling guns out the window or running around shooting up the place.

Some of us carry and use our guns like others--for recreation, sport, and competition.

I think some have missed my point. Respect the laws and you shouldn't have a problem. I respect Canada's laws and I really like their beautiful country, people and history. They smack you hard if you don't and my opinion is we would be better off in the good old USA if we did the same. And who said I did not have a gun or like guns? I respect the law abiding citizens who have/carry for what ever reason they choose. If you want Canada to change its laws, I would suggest you write to their legislators. I think the people of Canada are satisfied with their gun laws so good luck.

I have been boarded many more times coming home then going over BUT, I never felt like it was an inconvenience, just a health and or safety check. Thank you Canada, our greatest friend.

  5. Just posted to an RV news site:

Two RVers from Alaska got hit hard in a Canadian court after being found guilty of attempting to smuggle firearms across the border at Osoyoos, British Columbia. James (66) and Janet Sumner were making the crossing on May 25, 2015, and both declared carrying a rifle — but no other weapons. An inspection found a handgun in a closet in their travel trailer. They were arrested and their rigs were impounded, along with their three dogs. One of the dogs got out of its kennel and attacked a handler and was subsequently shot in the leg. Since the couple were refused transit across Canada, they had to take a ferry home, pay impound fees, plus costs of shipping their trailer back to Alaska by barge. All "tolled," including court fines, impound fees, veterinary bills, ferry, and transport costs, the Sumners paid $18,940 for their trouble. [Editor: The 2016 Traveler's Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty St

This is why I have no desire to give Canada any of my tourist dollars....

So they were doing something illegal and when caught they were made to pay a hefty price. Wow, that sound like a good idea to me. Maybe Canada has the right idea.

  6. If you already have a PA drivers license you do not need to get a permit and take the test because you already have a non commercial drivers license. You only have to submit a change of class from "C" to "A or B". Others have done it and my DW has done it and it costs NOTHING but a stamp. As for holding on to a CDL, my insurance gives me a discount because I still have mine.

Fill out form DL901 which is a non commercial driver's license/ID Card/Learner's permit application to renew/replace/change/correct.

Check the Driver's license box at the top. Fill out sections A, B - checking the change/correct box and license/ID card box and in section C in the space marked OTHER CHANGES write "change from non commercial class C to a non commercial class A."

    Sign at the bottom.

This is what my DW did and her change came in the mail.

  7. It could be the ice maker valve. My coach had a similar problem. Found to be the ice maker valve was leaking but only when it filled. I put a cut down soda bottle under the valve one day and waited for the unit to make ice to finally discover the problem. I took the valve off and cleaned it and just cut the line down an inch so it would have a fresh seal and it worked for me. Good luck.

  8. To PhaetonDriver, Just wondering if you were ever able to get your Class B NON-CDL license in PA? I too am from PA (Northeastern part of state) and while I don't have the larger RV yet, it's on my sights for the Horizon. I want to be ready when the time comes.

To others who have stated that their state doesn't require a CDL for their respective RV's (particularly if they are over 26,000 pounds), please be aware that even in PA, we don't require a CDL for the RV's, however, it still does require an elevated class of license.

I think that is where much of the confussion comes from. Many see Class B or Class A as a CDL only and don't realize that you can get a NON-CDL version of these. Additionally, at least in PA, you can even get a CDL for Class C (regular car). I presume that it might be needed for things like a Taxi.

So just because you are told that you don't need a CDL, don't just let it drop there. Make sure you don't need an "Elevated" Class of license either (CDL or otherwise).

My wife got her Class B (non CDL) by just requesting a FREE change of class on her PA drivers license. e just completed the form online and printed it then signed it and in three weeks my DW, who has never driven anything larger than a car, got her Class B for 26000 Lbs. and better.

  9. After reading the above comments, I agree with the other posters. If you tow according to the manufacturers recommendations, the mileage on the odometer is the correct mileage to be reported. If it was not, we would be compelled to record mileage while being towed and the odometer would be set up that way.

My biggest concern was the fact that the dealer has second thoughts. I think he is setting you up for a quick, cheap sale. I, personally, would have gone somewhere else after that.

    Good luck and safe travels

  10. Thank you Mr President for giving me an answer. I guess Mr Kessler was too embarrassed to answer.

I am not in agreement with the Freightliner Chassis Owners Club decision to leave the FMCA. I doubt that I will renew my membership with them. I don't feel like they acted in the best interest of the current membership and that the decision was forced upon us without any member input.

  11. Mr Kessler sent an email stating that "Your Executive Board has acted in violation of their rights, and has exceeded the authority, granted by your membership in the FCOC Bylaws" in relation to the FCOC leaving the FMCA. The president of the FCOC told me in an email that FMCA and FCOC had resolved this.

I have tried for over two months to get an answer by emailing Mr Kessler with cc to President Adcock and Mr Moning with no reply at all.

I was just trying to find out who was telling the truth. My last email was on January 04 and I told them that I would ask on the forum next.

  12. Ok, so everyone is a wm, tg or is somehow connected to Fantasy if they question you or make a comment. It seems each post you make the trip get worse.

What trip did you go on with Fantasy? They have many different Alaska trips.

I'm certain that things can happen no matter which tour group you choose. It's just a choice we make and is a matter of personal preference. How we handle these things will determine how good or bad our trip is. I have trouble blaming someone for a pothole, illness, or stones thrown by passing vehicles. These are things that we or anyone else have little or no control over. Preparedness is your due diligence when you go on any trip, even a trip to the neighborhood market.

  13. I am glad to hear that Ben and Nancy were good WM as they will be our WM this June.

I don't think that Fantasy uses the feedback form as a communications device other than what it says, "feedback." As I understand it, they want the customers feedback to make sure that the WM, TG, Campgrounds and all the other parts of the trip were meeting expectations. I would think that if you wanted a reply from them you would have called or wrote to them.

It's great that you have shared your experience with others here so we are more informed and I'm sorry to hear about your troubles but can you really blame Fantasy for your illness and two breakdowns? Personally, if I had been as unsatisfied as you seem to be, I would have written a letter to Fantasy and laid it all out, requesting a reply. You can still do just that, a good, old fashioned letter is still the best way to communicate with a company.

Well, I'll be sure to let everyone know what kind of trip we have this summer in Alaska. This will be our third trip with Fantasy and we have no regrets so far.

  14. I think a driving class is good for anyone who never drove a large vehicle and most states require some form of endorsement/class on those weighing over 26000 lbs. I can tell you that driving ability is not gender specific. One of the best Fire truck drivers (if not the best) that every drove me in Philadelphia was a woman. She drove that truck like she was a part of it.

You may well be surprised by your DW.

Bottom line is if she wants to learn I think that is great! I got sick on a recent trip and had to stop at every rest area for an hour or two before I got to a safe place to park for the night. If she drove it would have been a lot easier and much shorter drive. My DW does not drive the MH and never did like to drive even the car.

    JMHO

  15. The numbers are on the headlights and like ticat100 said a search on the internet will give you what they came from. My 2009 Bounder Diesel headlamps were from a Jeep with a range of years. I purchased them from an aftermarket supplier on ebay for $40 each. Not bad at all. Aftermarket parts are often different in small ways. Mine just had black instead of chrome in a place that most would not notice so for the price I choose to replace them both and save the old as a spare. Oh, and they came with new bulbs too.

  16. I also have chosen the TST system. I went with the flow thru sensors for both the MH & toad. It was fine the exception of one of the toad tires not registering once in a while (usually in the rain) which could be fixed by moving the small antenna on the monitor. Then The antenna broke and the nightmare began. I sent the monitor in and also purchased a repeater. I was also receiving low battery warning on two of the sensors so I replaced all 10 batteries. The new monitor worked fine but when it was unplugged for a short while it would loose it settings. It also began to not pick up readings on a few of the tires. I sent the monitor and problem sensors in for trouble shooting and warranty repair. I received the monitor back with four new, non flow thru sensors for the toad, which I had agreed upon via a phone call, and one other new sensor. I now have three wrenches. Two Allen but different sizes and one for the toad sensors. But, the monitor was still loosing it memory after a short while. After posting on a different forum, Dan C told me to contact them and he would get the problem fixed and I will say he did. I got a new monitor and a much larger "T" antenna which I could mount a few feet away. I do not need the repeater now because the new antenna picks up all ten sensors. BUT, It is less than two months later and the new sensor for the MH gave me a low battery warning. I tested the voltage and it read 2.74 volts dc which is short of the 3 v dc needed. I went to radio shack today and bought three new batteries.

I am hoping that when I get on the road again Sunday that I will be trouble free but I'm not holding my breath.
