Verizon Wireless Key
mclavey replied to berginaperzina's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
RE : Tengo Internet : I have been RV ing for about 10 years . After spending two weeks at Woodland Lakes in Texas .... and the poor internet connection and service. The only time I have internet trouble is when the park has hired Tengo Internet to manage the wifi and make the park a little more money. I don't mind paying for internet service .... but when you pay and the service is so bad it is not usable. I am now to the point that if I arrive at an RV park and they tell me they have Tengointernet ... I will get back in my RV and drive on down the road to the next RV park. -
I believe norcold is just trying to sell new refrigerators .... things must be slow for them , with the economy turn down. My second recall lasted one weekend .... I called norcold and was told to go back and have it check and I would probably need a new unit (refrigerator) .... so I will disconect the wires from the box and run it without the mod

Are you sure it is not a dead mouse ... or other rodent .... I have had many of them in my coach.
-
I have had many of these burn out ... they have all had either a small bulb or neon bulb. I replace them with 12 volt LED, that are available at Radio Shack for a couple of dollar. The front red cover will pop off and the leads can be soldered in. An LED will last a lot longer than a bulb, draws less power, and is cooler.

My coach has a power management computer which monitors the power draw and the input power and has four relays inside of the main power panel. It shuts down select circuits in sequence. I have had similar problems and it turned out to be a bad relay in the main panel. The shut down sequence is set up by the Mfg. Mine turns off the Washer first, water heater second ... front AC third ......... Yours may have the rear AC and the charger on the same circuit. Good luck finding the problem.

What do you use as an antenna with the bullet m2? Do you know if the bullet will run DD-WRT software ? thanks Marv.
-
No ,,, I set this up with DD-WRT software ... it has a setting for repeating the signal of the campground. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page I don't often need the external antenna, only when the signal is week.

I use a Buffalo HP (WHR Hp 54G) I use this one because it has an external antenna connection and a built in amplifier: http://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-Technology-Wireless-G-Antenna-WHR-HP-G54/dp/B000AOKTJ8 With a high gain antenna attached to router and placed on the RV roof or a smaller antenna on the dash. http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=416 The best looking (I have not tried it yet) I have found is :Ubiquiti Bullet M2 High Power. There are several modeles of this device, different frequency range , make sure it is wifi they can be found at many suppliers across the country , just google it . http://www.ubnt.com/bulletm Processor Specs Atheros MIPS 24KC, 400MHz Memory Information 32MB SDRAM, 8MB Flash Networking Interface 1 X 10/100 BASE-TX (Cat. 5, RJ-45) Ethernet Interface You will also need an antenna to attach to it.There are many on Ebay this one is omnidirectional : this is a good low cost wifi antenna (on Ebay for under $20 at times) http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=416 Or a directional one: http://www.buffalotech.com/products/wireless/wireless-accessories/14-dbi-high-gain-outdoor-directional-antenna/ Or an omnidirectional : http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=52

I have been an auto mechanic for 30 years ... and have never thought of a plastic bag to remove the filter to prevent fluid running down your arm (guess I am just a slow learner). Thanks for the tip.

This is almost as good as a James Paterson mystery story..... I bet the fuel filter is plugged again .... A tank of bad fuel. Having had this same problem on my last trip. I had to change a fuel filter on the side of the road about a mile from the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado ... I was down to 10 mile per hr. This is the second time I had this happen to me. (I am a slow learner) I now carry a pair of filters with me. I am getting good at this .... it took less that 20 min. and I was back on the road. I have great sympathy for you Jim. I will be watching for Chapter 10.

I went back to Pilot web site and found this : What is Pump Start and how do I get it? Pump Start allows you to start the fuel pumps using your Frequent Fueler Advantage RV Card – or your RV Real Value Card (if you are currently using one). To get the Pump Start feature, you must register your card at the cashier’s counter at any Flying J or Pilot location. After you have purchased 500 or more gallons from Flying J and / or Pilot, we will activate your card for Pump Start. You can see how many gallons you have purchased toward your Pump Start activation qualification by logging into your Frequent Fueler Advantage RV account online, at www.FrequentFuelerAdvantage.com, by checking your account at the in-store Driver Kiosk asking a manager at your closest Pilot or Flying J. So I guess pump start is NOT automatically turned on when you register. It will take me several years to get to 500 gallons. So that is not much of a feature for me. Best place to fuel up today is Wal-Mart ... where they have a fuel station. Good Price ... discount if you use there cash card ... and most of them are big enought to get in with a 40 foot and towing.

It appears that the target has moved again .... I just registered my card on line, in case I do want to pay more and stop at a FJ All went well .... except I got this message : Pump Start is only available to customers paying with cash, check or credit cards. Pump Start can only be requested at a store. Please present your drivers license to a cashier to request Pump Start. Close An unexpected error has occurred. Card Number Status Gallons From Goal 77000717xxxx Activated 0 Transaction History for 77000717xxxx Close From 10/21/2010 To 4/20/2011 Location Date Gallons 644 03/09/2011 - Not sure what all this means

I purchased a used Monaco from them several years ago. They had made many repairs to the used unit .... every one of them had to be redone .... I would never do any kind of business with them again. Of course, that is just my opinion.
-
I have a 2003 Monaco diplomat and have the same warning noise when driving in rain and it goes away when the pavement dries. I have had the problem since I purchased the unit used three years ago . I called Monaco technical department before the went into bankruptcy and they suggested it was the low air warning . There are sensors on the back of each air tank that are not covered. I cleaned and coated the front one with silicone and did not realize there is another in the rear .... so I still have the same problem. I will do the same to the rear one and post back what happened.

Internet by Tethered Cell Phone
mclavey replied to geeksontour's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
I have ATT and a Motorola v3xx phone which is terherable. When I leave home I go to the internet and add the cheapest data plan which is $15.00 per month and prorated daily .... so 50c a day. When I return home I turn it off. It works well ..... if you call and ask you are told you can't do it, you must get an air card... (so like the military says don't , don't tell ) ... but it works . -
Hi : Glen I have a wireless network running in my RV . I use two routers .... both routers are running a "Opensource" firmware from DD-WRT. http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index The first one is a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 which receives the wireless signal from the campground. I use the Buffalo because it has an signal amplifier built into it. The second router is a linksys ..... alto any router will do for the second .... it does not have to be running DD-WRT alto it is better to only have to deal with one router interface. The wan port of this router is connected with a cat 5 cable to a network port of the first router My computer connect wireless to the second router .... this is my internal network with the printer on it (wireless HP printer). By using this system you can share one wireless signal (even a single Coach Net ) with more than one computer and connect to a network printer. It is possible to do this with one router .... but easer with two .... today router are cheap. If you would like more help setting this send me an email with a request and a phone number . Hope this helps Marvin

Interstate 90 tolls
mclavey replied to sullivan_yvonne@yahoo.com's question in Destinations/Attractions
FYI in Illinois the sensors check the length of you rig .... with a toad you will be charged the same as a commercial semi. some of the toll gates will charge as much as $8.00 .... the trip on I90/I294 from Wisconsin to Indiana will cost over $50.00 The rate will be for a large truck Illinois does not have and "RV" class any longer for tolls. http://www.illinoistollway.com/portal/page...eid=133,1495185 I live in Illinois and I never drive the Illinois toll system with my RV! I do drive the toll roads in all other states .... they are reasonable . To transit Illinois east/west use I80 ( not I88 as this is toll) or US 20 or US30 To transit North/South I39 goes from the center of the state to Wisconsn around Rockford .... the last 20 miles is toll (north of Rockford) and will cost over $5.00. -
this is a location of information regarding towing laws by state. The rest of there web site also gives very good information. http://www.towingworld.com/articles/TowingLaws.htm

Maybe this will help http://www.sewersolution.com/
-
Gary ; Are you suggesting supersteer air control..... at $250 X 8 .... it is kinda pricey. Marv.
-
I have been using "Sewer Solution" for 4 years .... it is the best solution for draining tanks. I have purchased several 10 ft. extensions so I can connect to almost any drain. Some times I will park in the campsite backwards (for the view) and still connect the drain with no trouble.

I had the same problem with my xantrex 1500 on my monaco 2003 diplomat. it was putting out 165 volts , and was burning out electronics .... several computer power supplies and it finally burned up my DVD/suround player. I think mine has been bad for a long time many thing have been running hot. I spoke with the company technical dept and they thought it might be a resistor on the controller board. They will repair them if you ship the unit to one of there repair centers. The repair center do not repair the board .... they replace them with new boards. But being the ultimate do-it-yourselfer...... I dissembled mine and found a burned resistor array on the board . The array is a pack of four resistors in one package (yellow ceramic strip with 8 pins on it). I when to Radio Shack and purchased a package of individual resistors of the same value and soldered them in place of the pack. This corrected the problem and the voltage is now back to the normal 120 volts. This is not a repair for the average person .... it requires desoldered the resistor from the board and soldering in new ones. I will provide pictures of the repair if you would like to attempt it.

I have started using the Delorme Street Atlas USA 2010 and Trailer Life Directory, and I will never go back to a paper map again. The Delorme package comes with a bluetooth GPS which can be place on the dash near the wind-shield so it can receive the satellite signal. It will also work with Trailer Life software, although it will only work with one at a time.
