  1. 2 year warranty on a $10,000 paint job? That doesn't sound very good to me.
  2. Hopefully you understand that the Tailgater is an antenna and you would also need a Dish Receiver (VIP211K only is required) and a service plan with Dish. As long as you have the 211K and only need the one receiver you should not have any issues with that setup. The Tailgater is built by King Dome and sold under the Dish label.
  3. Most? Not sure anyone can answer most. If you have a source of income from any kind of a retirement plan you will want to consult a tax attorney to ensure your choice of locations will not have an adverse effect on that income (taxes!). Many people who need an address sign up for an address in SD. You can Google SD mailing address (or similar) and you will find that you can make SD your State of residence without much effort. Some use TX and Escapees and others use a family members address as their domicile. There are many choices but on one choice is right for everyone.
  4. If you are looking for long rides then this is an excellent location with lots of good roads (windy and otherwise). You will be close to Deadwood but nothing else in the way to tourist attractions. Depending upon what you want to do while you are there you might want to consider a campground closer to Mt. Rushmore, Custer, Crazy Horse (don't fall for it, the view from the road is just as good as the view past the $14/person gate) and the scenic drive whose name escapes me. We stayed at Heart Ranch in Rapid City and that's too far as well. In a previous visit we stayed at the Mt. Rushmore KOA and found it to be very convenient to all of the sights that we wanted to visit.
  5. The $399 is what Dish is selling as their "RV antenna". They are referring to the King Dome (labeled Dish) Tailgater. It's a ground mounted portable antenna that will work with the Dish pay-as-you-go service and the VIP 211K receiver (only). You buy the receiver, sign up for programming and turn the service on an off as you please. It's not the best choice if you RV for 6 or more months per year (or 6 or more times per year where you would need service) but it certainly is an option.
  6. You only have the 2 choices, Dish or DirecTV. You refer to Hughes which I assume you are referring to Hughesnet which is internet service and not TV. Since you mention a Winegard automatic I will speculate that you have a dome antenna. If that is also from '06 time frame you will be able to use it with DirecTV and receive all of the DirecTV programming in SD but not HD programming. You can also use it with Dish but you will need an upgrade to receive the programming from all 3 of the Dish satellites. You can install it all yourself by calling Winegard. They will ship you the receiver and you plug them in and follow the setup routine. If you are near an RV park you can likely visit them and find an RV friendly DirecTV or Dish installer. Lots of people are having satellite TV installed in there RV, you just need to find the right installer. http://www.winegard.com/receivers/rvreceivers.php
  7. They didn't care then and they don't care now. Maybe this kind of publicity will slow down their business enough that they will pay attention. If they are in a "prime location," they will never get it as there will always be another victim around the corner. The one review at http://www.rvparkreviews.com is also not good, so you might want to add this information to that site.
  8. Levelers will give you a much more stable platform than boards under your tires. It is also much easier to select your parking spot and make that parking spot "home". If you spend much time in your RV you are absolutely going to want to have some form of automatic (semi-automatic) leveling. I know nothing of the brands, but you will find that there are several to select from.
  9. While this is not really my area of expertise, I would seriously consider consulting a local electrician, doing the right thing the first time and not having any regrets about what you have done down the road. I would much rather have some wires that were too big for the job than even one wire that was too small.
  10. It's worth it not only for the safety but you will love how much nicer a household fridge operates and the huge amount of storage space. You just have to be aware of the amount of power required if you plan to dry camp. You may need more batteries to have enough reserve to make it through the night.
  11. I should have said "some big window" as many people have used access other than the door. After watching the glass company remove and replace the windshield in the coach I was helping with I can't believe that it could be done any faster through a side window! We barely had the fridge sitting on the floor before the windshield was going back up and it could not have been 20 minutes later that they were packing up and leaving. In any case, door, window, windshield, those are your options.
  12. I believe that most of the RV type fridge units are designed to go right out the door. You may have to remove the door(s) for clearance but otherwise it should fit. Now, when you make the necessary modifications so you can install a new residential fridge in it's place, that new fridge is going to have to come in via the windshield! (Sorry, big leap in assumption there, just speaking from experience.)
  13. That's why I am never an early adopter unless that company wants to send me the stuff to test for free. Even then, the work needed to help the company releasing a new product can be quite overwhelming at times and leave you questioning your sanity.
  14. If you have a propane generator then the detector going off would not be surprising but it should not have gone off if there were diesel or gas fumes. A CO detector could go off with any of these scenarios. You certainly might want to replace a 7 year old unit in any case, however, as I believe that most of the units do have an expected life span. I am just not sure how long that actually is.
  15. I don't think the problem is as wide spread as you indicate. Most of the units can be seen quite well when sitting on the dash of an RV or toad. The RM cannot and makes navigating difficult if not dangerous. They make a shadow box for it to help with the glare which is the first indication that they knew they screwed up but released it anyway. There is a 7720 due out soon which first reports are indicating that RM may have fixed this serious problem.
  16. The biggest complaint about the unit is that you can't see the screen well due to the glare.
  17. "My side of the closet"? Boy, I sure wish I had one of those! I would describe my space as a sliver.
  18. I would suggest getting some folding chairs to save storage space. They don't have to be cheap metal as they make some very nice wooden folding units with padded cloth seats just like a standard chair.
  19. You can look into a supplemental charging system that will use the MH batteries to keep your toad charged and it sounds as though it would solve any possible issues.
  20. If you don't have enough air flow and you can't move the receiver, you can install one of the computer type pancake fans. You just need air moving across the receiver and you will not have a heat issue. If you receiver is also in the front above the driver/passenger seats the heat from the cap makes things even worse and serious consideration should be made as to providing the necessary ventilation.
  21. Your first link it to a video control center and will allow you to send the OUTPUT from your satellite TV receiver to multiple TV's in your RV. Just run a coax cable from the "out to TV" connection on the back of the receiver to the Sat In on the video control center and you will be able to watch the one channel being viewed on the satellite receiver on any of the selected TV's. The second link is to an over the air (OTA) converter box. This unit will allow an old analog TV to receive the new digital TV signal. The picture will still not be HD but it will convert that digital HD OTA signal to a SD analog picture that you can view on your TV. If you want to be able to watch different channels on different TV's you will need a converter at each TV or you can connect one converter to the TV1 (or TV2) out connection from your video control center and use a splitter to send the one signal to multiple TV's. Just ensure that the converter has an option called "analog pass-through" or you will run into additional issues. I don't see that option listed when I followed your link but you can find one at your local Radio Shack which does. There is no connection between these 2 devices as they serve completely different purposes. If you are wanting to use a satellite TV receiver in your coach you are also going to need a satellite TV antenna and route a cable from that antenna to the back to the satellite TV receiver Satellite In connection. This coax run must be a separate dedicated line that does not run through any splitters or your video control center.
  22. Here's a link to their site and a video of how it's done. You start with something like 500 grit, 1000 grit, 3000 grit, 5000 grit polish and then rubbing compound. I watched the video and said it would never happen but that's exactly how it worked on my lens. They don't have that brand new crystal look but they are complete clear. The amount of light available was shocking the first night I drove after doing the restoration. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Car/Care/DIY_Projects/Appearance/Restoring_a_Headlight/
  23. While Herman says not to waste your time on kits to clean up headlight lens, assuming you have plastic lens that the kits are designed for, there are some kits that do an excellent job. I used a 3M kit on the lens of my former tow vehicle (2004 Chevy van) and it did an excellent job. You have to sand and sand and sand with progress grits of sand paper and then a polishing wheel and then rubbing compound so it takes over an hour per lens, but it does work very well. I still have the before and after pictures but I think they need to be hosted somewhere in order to post. If anyone is interested, let me know.
