  1. WOW! Thanks for the update. I guess none of them are members here, but it sounds like you should be able to easily find others with similar interests once you get on board. Paint my face red!
  2. The Winegard Trav'ler (SK-1000) will allow you to fully utilize a DVR in your coach but not a Tailgater. Your current 211K is the best receiver option with any kind of a domed antenna (roof mount or portable). A DVR will "work" with a dome but the 2 channels must be on the same satellite and you will likely have as many failures as you do successes. Did you know that your 211K will also accept the OTA input and record it as well? This "almost" makes your 211K a dual tuner DVR.
  3. Check it out. Lots of vehicles these days are not using the steering wheel lock no matter what you call your towed (car, van, SUV, P/U.....)
  4. That not being the question asked, how you would respond if your only choice was cover or not cover when left outside?
  5. Seriously? You think I don't know how a steering wheel lock works? I am towing a Chevy van and it has NO steering wheel lock. I have towed it for months now with the keys in my pocket (my last van did have a steering wheel lock). Many other units these days do not have steering locks as well. I think the Jeep line is one of the most popular ones that do not lock.
  6. The OP indicated that his vehicle does not do that (neither does mine and many others these days).
  7. I don't think you will find any argument here if you simply state that you ARE going to store your unit outside and you would like to know if you should cover it or not.
  8. Fogged double pane windows happens and can be repaired so I would not be concerned other than ensuring that they have a professional do the work and provide you with some documentation so you have someone to look to should they fog up again in short order. I don't anything of that specific brand but at least Fleetwood was one of the manufacturers who survived the '08 meltdown so if you need support down the road it's still there.
  9. The answer is yes, if the batteries were not being charged they could go bad. More likely is that the dealer was wrong that your batteries were bad and the problem all along was the converter. If the converter is not working your batteries will not maintain the charge. If the dealer will provide you with documentation that they properly load tested the batteries and found them to be defective you might have a pretty good case that the failed converter caused the batteries to fail. Now, of course, the only way any of this would help is if those specific components are included in that warranty.
  10. I would suggest a stand alone, smallish, GPS unit such as the Garmin units (so many you will have to pick the one that suits your needs). Being able to move the unit between the RV and the toad is just as important as having a good unit to start with. I don't think leaving a laptop or tablet in your car (your navigation device) is a good idea due to the possibility of tempting a thief. If you choose a hand held sized device there are many choices including the new Rand McNally which has a number or RV specific POI's but has a serious problem with screen visibility (glare).
  11. Is someone saying that covers are expensive? Expensive compared to indoor storage? Heavy? Yes. Expensive? No (by comparison). If you have already made the decision to store the unit outside I would absolutely use a cover and it would be the best that money can buy.
  12. Camping World certainly would be able to get your system setup. The KVH antenna (Trac-Vision) has to be re-programmed with special hardware so you will want to ensure you tell who ever does the install that you have a KVH which needs to be re-programmed. If they say "what?" then you need to find a different installer. Depending upon the age of the antenna you may not be able to have it re-programmed to receive all of the Dish satellites. The older units could only receive 110 and 119 and you would have to pay to have the new boards installed. $$$. If that's the case you might want to consider replacing an out-of-date antenna before you spend too much money. You can also check with any of the local, usually larger, campgrounds to see if they know of a local RV friendly dealer/installer to get your system up and running.
  13. The weather should be great. Oh sorry, the weather will be terrible. Oh sorry, no one has any idea what the weather will be. Assuming it's not snowy or icy you will have a great trip (just as you would on any Interstate highway). If the weather is terrible you will need to plan a delay in your travel plans until things improve.
  14. That is the major down fall of most internet based reviews of most anything. People, just like the above poster, will make great efforts to post a bad review but when they enjoy an experience they just assume everyone knows already. Because of the the on-line reviews are badly skewed to the negative when the reality might be that it's a pretty nice place with a few unhappy customers. There really is no way to know. It's not just this site, it's reviews in general. Imagine what it would be like if everyone who had a great experience posted. "My DirecTV worked exactly as it should today. Thanks DirecTV!" "See you tomorrow to make the same post!"
  15. I get the one jack thing, but with 2 jacks you are either going to have two tires on the ground supported by the coach frame or you are going to have to steel jacks on the ground supported by the frame. With that said, if that was my choice, it would also be my choice to move somewhere else the very next day. There is always another choice of places to stay.
  16. Sure sounds good. Is it a Battery Plus brand or is there a manufacturer listed. What are the amp hours? I love my AGM's which are now over 9 years old and still carrying about 80% of their original capacity (I am very hard on batteries).
  17. Not really. Level is achieved by raising or lowering one end or the other and that's about it. If you feel better about seeing structure under your tires, you certainly could carry some boards or ramps to place under the tires. But that really doesn't change anything as the jacks and the chassis are designed to be able to handle these kinds of stresses.
  18. You cannot correct a non-level site. Having the front wheels off the ground is not necessarily a bad thing other than the possibility that you will have a long step into our out of your coach. If that's the case, be sure you have the necessary step (steps) available. Having the rear wheels off the ground is another story entirely and needs to be avoided at all costs.
  19. Properly wired hard-wired tail lights will not drain your toad battery. The wiring can use the same lights but uses diodes to allow either the MH or the toad to send power to the lights. What usually drains a toad battery is having to leave the key on in the accessory position so the steering does not lock. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my new Chevy van does not have a steering wheel lock and I no longer have any issues with the battery draining while towing as I can now turn off and take the key.
  20. As a former commercial vendor, the 8:30 to 4 or 9-5 (or similar) hours are the longest of any of the shows we attended and it's just about all a vendor can handle. This is an exhausting event and when it's over for the day we were very happy to be heading back to our coach. If you keep things open longer you will have lost all of the customers that are attending the rally and want to eat and go to the entertainment leaving the vendor tent empty anyway. I am happy not be have to do that kind of work any longer but I sure am glad that when I did, FMCA kept the hours that they did.
  21. If you find 20 other people, please be sure to let us know.
  22. Good news! Glad to hear you got things worked out. Since the GLASS rally has been in one location "forever" the injection of a new location has to be a good thing! Keep posting here as updates become available.
  23. I have been there and there is nothing that looks anything like that. The sites you see at this link http://www.thedellview.com/about/site_plan.php in the bottom right corner numbered 1-18 were all that were there and most were still for sale. All are on flat land mostly in a valley if anything could describe their location.
  24. In case did not make it clear, the generator will shut down if you are low on oil and is likely the most common reason for a generator starting and then quiting. When power sourced are changed some things like your 3-stage battery charger will start over with a bulk charge, find it's not necessary and drop to a lower level and then finally to the float (not sure of the correct terms). If everything is working properly, this should also happen if you were on shore power and the batteries were fully charged. Disconnect and reconnect your shore power and you should see the same brief amp increase followed by a gradual drop.
  25. The TV channels that were available to you "used" to go up to 65. Today the highest UHF channel your TV can receive is channel 52. The channels 53 and up are/were to be sold off and used for wifi services. The costs are enormous and it will be interesting to see if anyone can or will use them. They would have to provide better service than cellular at a lower cost and I find that to be a questionable proposition with the advent of 4G services.
