  1. Seems BackhoeJ (John) has not been online since November. I hope all is well with him.
  2. Thanks for letting me know you appreciated the instructions and found them helpful. I watch this thread with interest and continue to be amazed at how many people are being able to repair their reels. Not good for the reel manufacturers, but good for all of us! I guess this could go on for years!
  3. Are you talking about this? http://www.trci.net/products/shoreline-reels/accessories/rc04d01-remote-control-for-rv-marine I didn't know there was such a thing. Surely the manufacturer can help you find one.
  4. Great to hear! No telling how many of these are out there! I hope more folks stumble upon this thread like I did so they can get their reel operational again as well.
  5. So great we have found a way to repair these and can work together to everyone's benefit. Thanks BackhoeJ for leading the charge! This will be a fun thread to watch!
  6. For Shoreline cord reels, it seems they have perhaps changed hands and no longer provide replacement parts. I found a private party that was able to provide a custom-made gear and got the job done. I documented it at the URL below and hope others can benefit from my experience. Silly to toss the entire reel due to a tiny failed gear. http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/26336645.cfm
  7. OK, got my gear and rivets from John and had this thing repaired in no time. See documentation of my repair here: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/26336645.cfm Thanks again to John and his son for providing a means to make this repair and save about $600!
  8. Today I got my reel out and the gearbox off, and sure enough it is just the little drive gear that failed. Here is a pic John sent me of his failed gear and mine was exactly the same issue. Simple little fix to avoid tossing the whole thing in the trash and buying a new one!
  9. I am so happy to have stumbled upon this thread. My Shoreline reel stripped its gears last year and I called the manufacturer who told me the unit was obsolete and no parts were available (as mentioned earlier). I sent a PM to BackhoeJ - hope to hear back so I can get some replacement gears! Its a shame to have to toss the whole assembly just because of some broken gears.
