ranchmink started following Safari Ceiling Cleaning
-
We have a Safari 97 MoHo and need to know how to clean the interior ceiling. It has a fabric type material similar to Armstrong sound soak but appears to be about carpet thickness. I have no idea what to use and do not want to damage the ceiling. I have attached a photo.

We have had this unit for over 12 years and use it when ever we can. I bought it at the LA Roadster show swap meet while walking thru the event. I had a 24' Airstream trailer completed but always wanted a Airstream MoHo. It was rough and made the seller an offer. I told him if he could drive it to my home and make it I would purchase it. He made it. We did a complete mechanical makeover with 502 HD engine replacement, gear vendor and rebuild trans, bigger radiator and everything we could do to make it more dependable. The interior got all new paint, carpet, finishes and every lizard skin sound and heat deadening below the floor. We have taken it out of state on trips as well as go to many vintage RV events with it. Fun to take out and tows a trailer with a classic car most places. The 502 HD GM crate engine fits well in the P30 Chassis, we put headers and upgrade intake to give more low in torque. It cruises at 70 without trailer with ease and gets 14+ MPG without a trailer. This is a keeper. I just found an 81 280 with Isuzu Diesel in a P30 chassis that would have been a better engine but I am to far down the road at this time. We did add hydraulic jacks as I got tired on the road in the rain placing the screw jacks under the unit, this was a great addition.

Good idea. If I cannot find out from a manual that is an excellent plan B thank you

Richard Thanks for the link but my unit is a MD3060 and the manual did not apply, any idea where I can find a link for MD3060?

Hi I thank everyone for giving me feedback on my issue. More facts: Transmission model MD 3060, anyone can tell me where to download a manual would be helpful I replaced the radiator last season with a new radiator. The majority of my driving is summer western USA with many grades. When the coolant temperature goes up so does the transmission. Never had any issues with winter trips, went to Park City in the winter no issues, but temperature did increase but not to the point of concern. On a recent trip the coach overheated and transmission hit 230 plus, the engine check light came on. When I added the secondary radiator went on a trip with no issue on the radiator side but on hills transmission and coolant went up together which I would expect. We have many long grades in the west and ambient temperatures in the 110 degree range not uncommon. I usually tow a trailer with a vehicle on it. Seldom use cruise control. Normally drive at 60-65 seldom go over as fuel mileage tanks. Since it has been increasing temperature, I have been gearing down for hills to keep the revs us and drop speed. I did recently add a secondary radiator which helped coolant temperature and did assist the transmission temps. I plan on adding the transmission cooler, found one on ebay good for Allison transmissions. I was planning on putting in as a precooler with an electric fan, thermo dyne brand. I will set up the fan with a thermo switch to turn it on and off based upon fluid temperature. I did plan on fabricating a cover to put over the transmission cooler for running in cold weather to stop air flow. I have read and understand the issues on running to cool. Once I was in Canada and blew the transmission lines off of the fitting due to fluid to thick to flow in cold weather. I was going to change the coolant and filter when I add the cooler. Back to my original question I need to know which line comes out of the transmission is and which one is return. I wanted to put the cooler on the out line.

Hello I have an 1997 Safari coach with Allision Transmission, 3000. I am getting ready to add a transmission cooler since my coach only has the radiator as the cooler for the transmission fluid. I need to know which line from the transmission is the out flow line, upper or lower from Transmission. My goal was to take the outlflow line from the transmission and put an inline cooler in place it as a precooler before the fluid gets to the radiator to keep BTU's out of the radiator. It seems when ever my coach starts to run warm so does the transmission.

Thanks. I will implement your advice. I had replaced our radiator last year since the previous owner never cleaned the residue from the slobber tube and it was clogged. I took it to our local cat dealer who was able to clean all the other components but radiator was to far gone I plan on adding a cooler and new synethic fluid before my next trip. I agree a cover makes sense. I assume if I add a fan unit it will be switched by a sensor switch.

Hello I have a 97 Safari with a MD 3060 transmission. Have had some overheating of the radiator and transmission got over 220 degrees at the same time. I asssume if I can keep heat out of the radiator it will keep other components cooler also. I want to add a transmission cooler to system. I would like an idea of what would be a good cooler to add? I found a great place to put it in the right rear of the coach. I have seen units with a fan unit that I assume comes on with a temperature sensor. Where would be the best place to tie it in to the system? I read your idea on fluids. I use dextron VI in our hot rods for higher operation temps. Would it help here?
