Not sure of your route or vehicle but if your not going up the So.Cal coast and instead looking at hwy 99 north .......we often use 395 north for the views etc. Have many times driven over state hwy 120 / Tioga Pass into the park.. Great campground at Saddlebag Lake area 10,000ft. no full hookups and its for RV's under 35ft as I recall. Good Mtn two lane road you just need to be familiar with mountain driving in RV.( Big Bear, Southern Utah, Colorado etc.) Diesel motor pulls the hill better if your driving east to west into Yosemite from 395. Road is open normally middle to end of may buy sometimes may not open until first week or so in June. Saddlebag camground opens in June.Often that upper part of Yosemite (Tuolumne Meadows) is less crowded so you can find camp areas where the Valley and west end seem always to be booked up.
