  1. Word hasn't got all DOT's yet!!! Many historic sites have roads that do not meet these requirements yet. I saw a campground in Georgia that advertised such a site on a billboard. no mention of a low overpass even on their billboard. It became a Carl moment, unhook toad, back 200 feet to nearest place wide enough to turn around.
  2. Many good upholstery shops across the country, the better ones can usually match almost anything, There is several dealers listed on the internet that can help in replacing most components, but I haven't had much luck finding replacement covers that look good.
  3. HayesFamily, welcome to the forum, and thanks for your comment, that's what it is all about, Carl just gets carried away sometimes. And the title to the thread is RURAL SPEED TRAPS THIS SUMMER. Happy motoring and feel welcome to comment or start a new thread anytime. Kay
  4. Many vinyl graphic sign makers can do this type of work. Ask to see their work, some are quality, some are not. All most need to put back to original is a good photo of what is there now for each area on your coach. The vinyl is rated as to how long you might expect for it to stay looking good.
  5. My last coach before the conversion was a Sportscoach on Spartan chassis, it used 255/80R22.5. Only manufacturer I could find for this size was Michelin, I was unable to locate Michelin when needed. As a result I went to 265/75 as Brett suggested, exact same height and 10 mm wider, that's just under 3/8 inch in width which means that the duals are 10 mm closer together. On that coach there was no problem making the changeover, ie. no kissing. Herman,12 R 22.5, I have found that 305 is pretty close to 12, I'll have to check the height for comparable.
  6. With the coach engine running and at fast idle does it start right up? If not with the same condition pushing the battery combine switch will it start right up? Code 32 seems to indicate that the stater does not start turning when power has been applied to the control board on most Onan generators, you did not give model number of yours. Can the 12 volt cables be removed from the coach source and a fresh 12V battery hooked directly to the genset, then try starting. If this does not work correctly, I would look for a Cummings/Onan repair facility.
  7. Congratulations Brett, Carl will now present the GRAND DRAGON award, for your five thousandth post<LOL. The ATS switch is most vulnerable on the genset side due to the time delay circuitry. Sometimes fails to bring on 240 volts, "or both 120 circuits". But checking the genset circuit breakers can also be a must.
  8. I would start by checking and cleaning all 12 v cables and grounds to the generator.Could be something else such as a bad selenoid, but first things first, ground cables are usually bolted to the chassis, and with dissimilar metals, oxidation can occur causing conditions like you are describing.
  9. Several Ford products are towable 4 down, GM has several, and Jeep most are towable with auto transmissions and4 wheel drive as well as still producing manuals.
  10. Oh woe is we with our older coach conversions!
  11. How about one of those probe type cameras? Many tool supply stores sells them, or maybe a mechanic friend would be happy to use his.
  12. Bill, no problem, I was referring to my Goodyear's that were replaced, I saw no ride difference on my coach..
  13. I replaced two, two years ago with sumitomo on steers, then two more this spring, I could not tell any ride or steer difference over the Goodyears replaced, they are 12 X 22.5.
  14. I don't know where your mirrors are located, but mine are almost in line with the front edge of the front bumper, I use mine as a reference point. I think that it is better that you stopped short of the lines, will be much easier to get used to stopping right on, at driving classes they always use those orange cones for reference points, even though they are not there in real life situations, this is why I suggest using a reference point for practice purposes.
  15. Yep Carl, if the shadow is straight up and down makes it easier but hardly anyone is driving or testing between 11:30 and 12:30, that is lunch time.
  16. Was your stop short or long? In a practice zone, you should place two lines 18" apart, you could use white spray paint if ok with owner, or if not, use masking tape, to duplicate the test lines. Make yourself a marker pole out of pvc pipe or a 2X4 placed in a bucket of earth to holt straight up. Place the marker in the center of the two lines and to the left slightly of where you should stop the coach. Then you can practice stopping the coach at that exact spot several times while focusing your eyes on the two white lines and the marker pole at the same time. You can do this going forward, then backing back to that exact same spot and stopping in both directions. This will make you aware of where the front end of the coach in relation to your driving habits. Also invite the DW or a friend to watch the first few times and use walkie talkies or cell phones to help communicate, you do not have to talk back to her or him during the exercise. This should help in your perception of where the front end is at all times. The test is probably not designed to make sure of where you are stopping necessarily, but your ability to understand how much is ahead of you while driving down the road. Good luck with honing in on your skills, and with passing the test. Hope this is helpful. Kay
  17. Joe, looks like Blake has explained the oil pretty well, but here is another link for your reading enjoyment. http://yarchive.net/car/rv/propane_tank_oil.html
  18. Unfortunately, Remco no longer supplies driveshaft disconnects, but they will direct you to another source that will cater to your needs.
  19. Herman, we used to take along two hundred feet of black hose and leave it coiled in the sun hooked to an outside shower, and you are right the water was almost scalding sometimes. Also, propane weighs about 4.24 # per gallon, so 60 gallons = 254 plus tare.
  20. Bill, I think that is called super redundancy, "twice two different ways" = 4?
  21. Some of the national companies are in fact offering wifi service, but it is being paid for either by you as a subscription, or some local municipalities are paying for it and using of your tax money to pay for it. Seldom or probably never is it offered in a location such as Herman's or mine, the areas are too sparsely populated. Now many cellular companies sell a hotspot service, called by many names, Verizon MiFi etc.. Therefore national wifi is still wifi, and hotspot is still hotspot. Even onstar uses the cellular service to receive transmissions from your vehicle, only have contract with many cellular services so that when one does not work hopefully another will. The requirement to transmit from the earth through the ionosphere is very challenging, therefore requiring too many watts to make that happen, while from outerspace to your vehicle is very miniscule, thereby allowing transmissions to your location as long as your antenna is not shielded. Yes trucking companies do receive and transmit directly to the satellite because there is a satellite dish mounted to the tractor and it is self positioning, only way currently to transmit to a satellite, plus the battery supply is large enough to push the necessary wattage to the satellite. As a Limey would say, Bill, you are "SPOT ON".
  22. Carl, no slides, actual length 41.5. I would think that yours is probably 2000 + 800 if I were to guess but that may be wrong. Does your panel show charge from one inverter/charger, or two? If I were a betting man, I would bet only one with a charge circuit for all three battery banks using isolation circuitry. And to answer the 24 v gas, no, I also have a 6000 watt propane Honda generator. I use three ATS's in the set up.
  23. There are some often overlooked ways to save money on your overall expenses. First one is if you are a average owner, you may have a mortgage on the unit, the interest on the investment can be counted against your income tax as a second or primary home if you have no other. Also, if you have a business and use the MH or TT partially or wholey, for business purposes, you can also take a prorated portion of depreciation against income taxes, as well as other expenses.
  24. Five, my question would be, how many watts output at 120 volts is your inverter/charger? If others are interested, I have a 5000 watt PSW inverter/charger that actually is a 240 volt output inverter, that requires 24 volt battery bank. The unit requires 240 volt input to enter the auto charge stage, which in turn charges the 24 volt battery bank. Also in the setup, I have a gasoline run 24 volt generator that also starts automatically which is set to auto start at 65% charge of the battery bank. This little unit runs super quite because it runs as slow as 800 to 2400 rpm. Since my coach is 24 volt system, I can run the chassis batteries right along with the 6 2000 amp gell cell batteries to keep the system charged from the 230 amp 24 volt onboard alternator of the coach. This gives the ability to run two roof airs at the same time along with res. fridge and other amenities while traveling. Just a little FYI for anyone wondering.
  25. Herman, Ford changes often. I just bought a 2016 Ford Escape, front wheel dr., cant be towed 4 down more than 50 miles in neutral, not over 50 mph. So I will still be using my dolly. I looked at the 2014 model and almost bought one, it could be towed 4 down.
