  1. I live in central Georgia and don't use wheel covers, run Michelin XRV tires, never had cracks or damage caused by UV. I get rid of them when they get any  road damage or 5-7 years religiously. I know some of you are from Texas and other sunny places,  I don't see a need to cover wheels when out on the road? My tires are not exposed to sun except when away from the pad at home. I am solo now so I am a weekender now and  don't spend as much time on the road as years past. I guess what I am saying, the need for tire covers depends on where  and how you garage your unit, and how much time you spend on the road.

When I had my ISB I didn't have a problem with trapped air but trapped old coolant or water  used to flush out the system. My process was on the last flush to use distilled water. Then after draining all you could, knowing there was still some in the system. Find out what the capacity is and fill with 50% non diluted coolant. (providing you want the standard 50/50 mix.) Then top off with distilled water.  This will take into account the water trapped in the system. I had to fill the expansion tank a couple times as air blead out but it was pretty ease.

Thanks Bill, The last Time this was done it was about five years ago and I paid a dealer to do it. $$$$. Money is getting funny nowadays, decided to do it myself. You Texas guys plan on coming up here to Perry this year?

  3. Need to change coolant on 02' Journey with Cummins ISB, need to find out how to insure I get the air out of the system because of the added equipment, hot water heater,  the length of the vehicle, act,. to prevent airlock and prevent damage to engine. Exactly what is the drain process, drain locations, and burp procedure for this coach?

My log is my Capitol One and Sam's Master card bills. All camp site go on Capitol One and all fuel on MC. Then just wait for the bills. Wow good or Wow bad, but it doesn't change anything. We still go and enjoy every minute of it.

Ready to roll now but Bobbie is recuperating for knee replacement. End of first week and she is doing great.

    Herman

Glad to hear the wife is doing well and you will be ready to roll soon. My wife can't roll with me anymore so I roll solo now, been of the road for almost two years. Happy Holidays, look for you and Manholt at Perry this year.

  5. If you just need the awning or parts, as much as I hate to refer anyone to them, Campers World can get all the parts or entire awning.   My awning had a dispute with a tree last year and I bought a new one from Campers World. Price was competitive, just don't let them install it!

  6. Likewise glad you were able to get it fixed. One point of importance, inspect your unit each time you use it. If you see or smell fuel dripping on the ground or spot on the driveway, CHECK IT OUT before your hitting the road. It saved me a tow and excessive repair cost and inconvenience more tha once. Ditto on the DIY work.

  7. I recently read on another forum where a Coach Net member was charged $400 by Coach Net because his towing/winch  job took more than two hours to complete. Up until now I have been satisfied with Coach Net, but if this is true I may have to find a addition tow service. Anyone having experience in this area, I would appreciate any information you can provide. THANKS!!

  8. Current Status: Talked with Cummins Service Tech and Freightliner 24/7 Tech and I believe we have nailed down the cause which confirmed one or more of the suggestions given by board members.

FIRST; The problem with the dash light bar, gauge and low air buzzer is one problem likely cause by the VDU  module as indicated earlier. To cure this problem I was told to remove the negative battery terminal of the crank battery's and leave them off for ten minuets or so. This would effectively reset the VDU module, and this is the only way it can be done. In the event that doesn't work, than the VDU is defective and must be ether repaired or replaced. I will be doing this reset  in the next few days, when I clean up my battery terminals and water the battery's.  If I have to repair or replace the VDU, I have sourced them out used for around $400 , new close to $1000. If I can't reset the VDU than I will remove the seal and attempt to solder the four connectors that most often fail. If that doesn't work i will likely by a used one.

SECOND:: The "no start"  engine condition is not related to the VDU or the light bar issue. The starter relay is found on the 02 Journey on the curb side rail mid-center on the engine. It is mounted to a bracket that projects it below the rail and consequently into the air and water stream when the vehicle is moving down the road, or the wind and rain is blowing under the unit. Both Cummins and Freightliner indicated that the position of this relay on earlier models and the other one on the drivers side (main 135AMP breaker for front end controls) have been problematic due to early failure from  corrosion and water. Both Freightliner and Winnebago have subsequently re-positioned the relay inside the nearby compartment, and or re-fabricated the bracket to keep it out of the air/water stream and tuck it away higher between the rail and the engine, depending on the year. I purchased a new one from a Cummins dealer and will  replace the relay and in the fall move it into the compartment. This will be a cheap fix, bought the relay for $23.00, the proper name for this part is "Relay Solenoid Magnetic", the White Rogers (MFG) and Freightliner part number is  ESX-120-105112-2

I'm optimistic that this will go well now that I have confirmed the cause and remedy, I will update this post after work is completed.

  9. As a emergency measure I need to install a remote start switch in the rear electrical cabinet. Need some info, does the Winny Journey 02 start with a series parallel relay on 24VDC?  Anyone else ever did this?  Anyone know of diagrams for remote.?  Any coaches come stock or option with remote start near the engine compartment?

I have to do this because I will not be stuck somewhere because I cant start engine. Comments !!!

the rear tank fell to sixty and low air buzzer sounded .How Long did the coach set before the low pressure alarm went off?

Response: The engine was running when the low air went off.  i had been driving for a hour in dry weather. Parked and shut down engine. It started to rain and i sat there for a hour or so, storm came up and lasted about 30 minutes. Started engine to leave and started normally, when air built up to 120psi i released park brakes. immediately rear tank guage dove down to 60 # +-.  like the guage lost power. Within seconds the guage went back and forth between 60 and 120 more than one. I shut off engine thinking i would reset the guage and the it would not start. Tried several times, finally it started again. Drove home without incident, however guage did bottom again several times.

ot crank. There is a large 100 to 120 amp auto reset fuse real close to the starter - it supplies power to all the 12 volt circuits for the dash and starter circuit.

This could be an issue where the plastic enclosure of the circuit breaker has cracked and exposed the internal circuit to water.  Have seen this problem first hand

. This problem would also disable the dash light bar.

Response: I am familiar with the circuit breaker you are referring to,  several years ago it shut me down at a traffic light when a wire was corroded. Mine does not have a plastic cover and is exposed to road debris and moisture in the air stream. I will be checking the wiring and clean it up again. It would be helpful if you could post a picture of plastic cover.

The time line between the air pressure level peak and the alarm could offer a clue to that issue.

Why did it startup at all! question is how much water built up under the coach during the rain burst? Did the cooling fan move a quantity of water into a damaged fuse?

Responce: Time between 120 and 60 reading was maybe a second, it was clear the the guage was responding to a electrical problem, not the actual air level.

After you got the engine running , did the dash lights work along with the light Bar?

Did the air pressure alarm come on again at home base?

Response: After the engine was running the light strip appeared normal, but the guage bottomed a couple of times on the way home. The very next day, (dry, hot, weather) the same thing happened a couple of times. I shut down the engine and after a couple of hours i tried to start it and it would not start. The dash went through its normal sequence but would not crank. After trying a dozen more times, while calling a tow truck, alas it started. when i got home, i shut it down and it restarted, over and over. Go Figure????

Rlbarkley, welcome back! I was thinking of you the other day, hadn’t seen you on here in a while.

Your concern definitely sounds like water intrusion. DandL’s troubleshooting above would be where I’d start.

Greetings; Nice to know you have been missed. Been sidelined for the last year. I am now a caregiver for the DW, unable to get too far from home.

  12. I run a 02 Winnebago 32" with Freightliner XC chassis, powered by Cummins 5.9 ISB engine. Sitting stationary engine off in parking lot when storm blew up for maybe thirty minutes. after storm I started engine and it built air ti 120psi, with front tank at 130, the rear tank fell to sixty and low air buzzer sounded. checked outside, no air leak, maxi-brakes released. Turned engine off to see if that would reset gauges, tried to restart engine would not crank. retried starting several times, finally restarted. drove back to home base uneventful. when i reached home turned off engine and she fired right up. Called Freightliner 24/7 and the tech told me it sounded like dash light strip was bad, might need to be replaced. The start issue had not occured at that point and was not discussed.

QUESTION: does the dash light strip have anything to do with engine starting? If light bar is defective, could it prevent engine from starting?

Any information that is given is appreciated.

  13. Hi all, I am tiered of getting oil everywhere when filling my 02 Journey up with oil after oil change. Freightliner uses a aprox. 1.5"-2" fill tube which is placed in such a manor that it takes all day to get one gallon in the engine, and it is near impossible to get funnel into it to refill the engine. Has anyone out there developed a nice neat clean way to refill your engine oil. Or know of a gadget that would make this job a little cleaner.

  14. I wouldn't spend too much money trying to build a 02 unit!  Colman-Mach now has a new replacement for the OEM unit, ($2655.00 free shipping from Amazon)  available elsewhere at varying prices. Colman-Mach part # 46515-811, Winnebago part# 700050-01-000.  The new unit has the improved R410 refrigerant and is designed to work on 50/50amp service.

Consult Winnebago prior to install as there are some technical changes that may be required for the electrical control monitoring panel.

I have looked at the Mobley for unlimited data for $20/month, but don't think it would be good for us since we have the phones on the shared 30 GB da

AT&T's ZTE Mobley unlimited data deal ,  $21.05  per month , $99.00 purchase price with no contract is the best deal on the planet, bar none. You can run up to five devices on its WIFI  and the speeds are really fast in most areas. We previously used the lowest data plan for Verizon and used the Mobley  for data at home and on the road, never needed more than the 4K plan, cut my monthly service cost substantially. There is supposed to be throttling at 22GB but AT&T does it differently. They refer to it as prioritizing, if the area/tower  you are in is congested, than they will throttle you after 22GB, as the traffic declines, or you move to a less congested tower, speed is restored. My  average is between 90-160 GB per month. Haven't found a area without good coverage. Adapters are available to use this device in the house, in the car, or motor hone. The devices are a little bit difficult to get because they go off the shelves as soon as the manufacturer ships them. Best bet is online at AT&T. Be advised most customer service rep's don't know anything about the Mobley, so you have to be persistent and ask for the "auto connect" people. Don't buy a Canadian Mobley (eBay) because the firmware is not compatible with AT&T USA. Best buy sells the AT&T ZTE Mobley with contract when they have them in stock, look online or call around.

We had the solenoid replaced less than a year ago.  Could it be something else?

A lot of the solenoids sold today are junk, especially if when repaired it was replaced with NON OEM parts. Not unusual! It would be helpful if your signature contained information about your rig, or you put it in the narrative. Such as Cummins ISL, model, hp, gas, ford V-10, allison 3000 ect. Last, if you have a diesel, there is also a series parrallel relay in the circuit in addition to the start relay.

  17. I report poor service to RV Service Review ( Rvservicereview.com) and the Better Business Bureau in the area of the service provider. I also write reviews on Yelp. Must have some effect on the bad guys because I have had a couple contact me to " resolve" the problem. Also report good service to RV Service Review and comment about same on this forum and other forums for the benefit of others.

  18. My never cold N8xx recently required a lower door from hanging gallon jugs on it, all plastic!   It's now 15 years old so I am making replacement plans. I will replace it with a residential and power it via ice maker plug. At the breaker box which is at the end of the bed frame, I will isolate the wire from the refrigerator and reroute it direct to the outside electric bay approximatly 8 feet away. The electrical bay as I call it houses the shoreline, transfer switch, surge protector, and has a lot of available space. I plan to install a PSW inverter on the side wall and run the refrigerator line with a breaker to the PSW. The PSW will get DC power from cables connected to the house batteries less than a foot away. The inverter must be a ATS featured type that will sence when AC power is available and act as a transfer switch. I will also install a separate DC line to the interior of the coach so I can shut off the inverter completely when I am concerned about battery drain. The DC shut off-on would be handled by a continuous duty  Solinoid.

Has anyone identified the best replacement for the NORCOLD 800 series reefer?

I would appreciate opinions and/or comments in regard to my plans.

  19. Be. Careful about who you take your MH in particular If it is a Allison problem. I can tell you first hand that many service vendors recommended by the coach manufacturers are not competent to work on M H’s.  I did receive excellent service from W.W. Williams, they are nationwide in most major city’s.  These guys are PROFESSIONAL GRADE. On engines of all types, electronics, Allison and other brand tranny’s.

If you have a Freightliner Chassis, don’t assume shops listed on FL’s 24/7 App are competent, they are not all up to par.

    Good Luck

  20. Many oil suppliers sell oil that they say is TES 295 spec lubricant. Don't take a change on the TS-295 spec or compliant oils, as they are generally NOT approved by Allison or else they would be on Allisons list. Allison often does  oil analysis on all fluid in trannys coming in for service, especially warranty work. If it is not a approved supplier on their list they will not stand behind warranty.  OUCH!
