  1. Quite common on some Country Coaches. Some came with limiting straps as Brett mentioned. Cummins in Portland OR broke two of mine on the drive axle when they rebuilt the engine in 2015. Of course they claimed they didn't do it.
  2. My '14 Wrangler 4 dr manual says to put trans in park and transfer case in neutral. That was the same for my '97 Grand Cherokee. The manual trans is supposed to be in gear and transfer case in neutral.

    Actually CC produced up through at least May 2008, which is when my Magna with ISX 650 was produced. The highest number of Magna I know of was 7032, which also had an ISX 650 and has dropped a valve in #6 twice. Being fixed by Cummins this week with a reman engine.

    Actually they fixed the CM871 EPA 2007 models by redesigning the valves with new, stronger materials, redesigning the head and new programming. They also came out with new carbon scraper liners and matching pistons which I had installed in mine.

    My ISX 650 has been rebuilt 3 times in 58,000 miles. Last time was pre emptive as Cummins couldn't tell me if they used the upgraded parts in 2015. After disassembly the Cummins shop said it was only a matter of time before it broke a valve off. The #6 liner was acidcetched enough to feel with your finger and the others were showing some problems. Only had about 6,000 miles since the last rebuild in 2015. Late wife had liver cancer so we didn't get out much. Driven about 5,000 miles since the rebuild earlier this year and it is running much better than ever before. In 4 years I've spent $53,000 for engine repairs. Premier RV in Junction City OR has had two break valves off and the big Foretravel dealer in Nokadoches (sp?) has had one. My CC is #6999 and I know the owner of 6998 '09 Veranda and his broke in 2016 at 12,000 miles. I've reported it to NHTSA and one other site.
  6. I just bought '14 Wrangler with the 3.6 V-6. They have a specific test and it turns out I can use the same OAT coolant as my Cummins ISX 650 so one less thing to worry about. I do have to do a drain and flush before adding the OAT.
  7. Yes it is the ISX 650 that drops valves. There are a few 600 ISX's that have also done it. Cummins calls it "chordal failure". Acid from the EGR eats #6 intake valve then they break. Mine has been rebuilt 3 times in 58,000 miles. In 4 years I've spent $53,000 for engine repairs.
  8. Mine doesn't have a ladder either so I used the thin 3M outside double sided tape for the FMCA and my GS lifetime member plaques.

  10. New Sterling is 8,000#'s. No change in the bar, just higher strength safety cables. Several Blue Ox failures being reported on other forums. The knuckle/ball breaks. Blue Ox claims their is no problem but the failure pictures say otherwise. I have yet to see one RoadMaster failure that was due to the bar itself breaking. I did see one that the bracket bolts worked loose and the owner didn't check them as required.

    Newmar tested them some years back, they must have decided the singles weren't worth the cost or something as they still use duals. Some of the construction trucks here use them on their pups, but not the towing rig.
  12. Why not? My CC has aluminum rims even on the inside duals. But I do have a real problem as my tag and front are 10" wide rims for the 365/70 tires, the drive axle has 4-9½" rims. Just used the Advantage program for 4-315/80's and 4-365/70's and saved over $1,700 from list.

  14. Brett, that's what I'm going to be doing if I get to traveling more. Bought a TPMS for the DSDP and still have it, the Magna has a SmarTire system and I just had all new tires and sensors installed. Just bought a '14 CR-V to tow. Since Cindy died in August I need all the help I can get!
  15. Brett: They used to, or at least did, when we bought the '05 in Dec of '04. That's why I got it in writing that the '05 was towable four down since the '04's were sold out by then. I did get the drop hitch in Phoenix after we met at the one campground. I was towing the Ody then on the way to the GS rally .
  16. We bought our '05 Ody EX-L specifically to tow four down. Got it in writing on Honda letterhead that it was approved for towing behind a motorhome. Had RoadMaster set it up for towing. After a short while I started seeing posts on the internet that it was not towable. After some "discussion" involving Honda and OR and CA AG's office Honda wrote us a check for over $2,200, which I used to buy a KK-460 dolly and used it for a couple years. After talking with owners of different years of Ody's I went back to towing it four down. I have at least 40,000 miles on it towing and 108,000 on the odometer with not one bit of trouble (well, did forget to release the parking brake once!). Still driving it and has only had the trans fluid changed a couple times. Have friends and '10 Ody and they've towed it more miles than I have with the '05. They also have had no problems associated with four down towing.
  17. About and hour ago I got finished replacing my Princess propane two burner cooktop with a two hob True Induction cooktop. The Princess cooktop was the only propane in the rig and had only a 5.5 gal tank. Took me days to safely burn off the 4 gal or so it contained. I bought a portable unit at Wal*Mart for just less than $40 that came with a frypan to try out. I have gas in the stick house and the induction unit is much faster and controllable.
  18. Lots of rigs are built in a different year as are cars. Doesn't matter, the ISX is a 2007 EPA CM-871 DOHC unit. Cummins has come out with new heads, valves, ECM programming and turbo to correct the problem. Cummins guaranteed, in writing, that we had the latest parts in ours. And I don't think much of Winnebago buying out Bob Lee, one of the main distinctions of the CC line was the DynoMax chassis. I don't think Winnebago will bring that back. Would put the cost of my rig up over $1,000,000 now.
  19. I guess I'm going to find out! My wife of almost 30 years died 6½ weeks ago and I'm getting the MH ready for a few trips this fall. Still have the DW's grandson with me and he's in HS so have to work around his schedule.
  20. Check the engine section for "dropped valve in #6". My ISX has done it twice, once at 14,000 and again at 45,000 (2,500 after we bought the rig). The first time it was under warranty and the bill shows $14,000 cost. Mine was for $33,000 with Cummins paying $10,400 of it. It's also had three turbo's (two under warranty) and two DPF's )one under warranty). When it runs it runs very well, no problems getting on a freeway even at 50,000#'s and towing an add'l 4,500#'s. Mileage was consistent at 7.6 mpg although now it's down some due to the new pistons and liners. Cummins knows there's a problem with the 600 and 650 HP 2007 EPA (dual overhead cam) engines and has a new head, valves, turbo and programming to cure it. I sure hope so as I can't afford to pay for another dropped valve!

Then it did it a second time at 45,000 miles after buying the rig 2,500 miles earlier. So far it's gone through three turbos and two DPF's. The engine repair was over $33,000 and Cummins did pick up $10,400 of it but still.... Engine is strong when running and I certainly don't get in anybody's way getting on a freeway.
  22. We have seven cats that go with us. Litter box is in the shower when parked. I scoop at least twice a day or more often depending on a "sniff" test! Here are three of ours. These are Japanese Bobtails, the one on the right at the windshield is on her first trip in the MH.
  23. Our Magna had over 60 of the halogen puck lights, they had a heavy metal heat sink/reflector. The bulbs themselves carry halogen numbers, the owners manual says they were halogen, the dealer said they were halogen and they even melted into what little vinyl headliner we have as well as melting the plastic bezel. The lenses had to be glass too.
  24. Bought our '09 Magna last late Feb. Engine blew up on the way back from the first trip out, cost us $22,000. Wife was terminated from her job on April 30th for health reasons. On June 7th they diagnosed her with inoperable liver cancer. Only "cure" is a transplant and the chances are 6% of that happening in time. BUT we're going the opposite way and keeping the MH. Hopefully we can get out a few times this summer! Good luck with your sale! OH yes, keep the FMCA membership, well worth the money.
