  1. I always keep the instructions for just that reason. I'm going to reset the lows when I get a chance and before we head out. Thanks again for the info and patient explanations. Filled in some blanks. Safe travels
  2. If I remember correctly, the recommendation for the tpms setting was 15-20%. If I am reading your post correctly. Then it would be better to set the low psi mark at 3-6 lbs level. If so, I am thinking along about 5lbs, due to the fluctuation I am seeing of about 3-4 pounds from cool morning (depending on outside temps) leaving tire pressure to getting up to driving speed. Looks like I may be re-setting the low psi mark,,,,,where did I put the instructions. Thanks for input.
  3. Tireman9 Thanks for the great explanation. I think the 156 number may be what interests me. What got me thinking about the psi and heat is when I installed the tpms last year. The max psi for my Hankooks are 110, my inflation psi is 100. As I traveled during the hotter months I would not only see the psi rise (which I know is normal), and the temperature rise (which I also know is normal). I know tire engineering is complicated and way above my pay grade. If tpms measures heat, and folks use the heat guns on their tires, it would logically seem to me, You should know what you are looking for. If you are going to monitor temps, seems to me you should have an idea why you are monitoring, and the parameters. Otherwise, why bother. Oh, that's nice, my tire temps are registering 130 degrees. Anyway, as you know when you are retired, you have plenty of time for deep thinking, ok, maybe not so deep. After 38 years of Rv'n, and almost a dozen Rv's with 3 blowouts over those years, just getting around to this heat question,,,,Must have been in the slow class, and didn't know it. I think only 3 blowouts isn't too bad, and 2 of those happened on the same RV within 2 days of each other. Needless to say, all tires were replaced. It has been a learning curve. OOPS, catastrophic tire failures. Thanks again for the great explanation. obtw, great pictures, also.
  4. I don't know the answer either. So, when a tire blows, does it blow because of tread separation due to low pressure or does it blow due to high temperature as a result of low pressure causing the threads to separate. How hot does a tire get before it blows? If heat is not an issue why is it necessary to have temperature readings on tpms systems, why do folks buy infra-red temperature readers. Somewhere heat and the temperature must be a factor. Have a nice evening.
  5. A lot of discussions about tire pressures, weights, and Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems. When monitoring tire pressure, and temperatures, how hot do the tires get while traveling down the highway before you should start to be concerned? When operating at the proper PSI, and going down the highway, psi and temps rise. A lot of information about psi, but couldn't find anything specific about maximum temperatures for tires. Tire pressure and temps rise while moving. How hot before you stop and let them coooooooool?
  6. I purchased the 10 sensor TST system May 2013 and installed them. They have worked great in providing psi/temps on all tires. I did not need the extended antenna for the 34' MH. I did not want the air through sensors, as I am a retired control freak and like to occasionally keep my finger on the stem! Keep it simple works for me. Notice I didn't say keep it simple stupid! Kiss concept! They power up in the AM within a few minutes and ready for psi/temp review before leaving. I have not had to change the batteries yet, but I can change them myself. When researching there was good reviews on the well known systems. Customer service, ease/inexpensive battery replacement, and reliability is why I went with TST. Glad they have several reliable companies to choose different systems. Now that I added the Chrome duallyvalve kit, I can easily remove/install sensors and air up the tires easily.
  7. Generally, I renew online 2-3 months prior to expiration. The stickers are sent to my commercial mail forwarding address, and then I have them sent to wherever I may be. I can then track the mail easier. Have not had a problem. The 90 safety inspection window is a logistical problem. It may work itself out, if changes are made, if not I may renew next month which will put me into 2015. SD should still be there next summer as we pass through. I have read an organization is working with Texas reps. From what I have read, not only are full-timers affected, but truckers as well. It will be interesting to see where it goes. I like my Texas tags, but!!!!!!! Guess we could still come to Texas with SD tags, The pressures of full-time retirement.
  8. I have been following it for awhile, and that's my understanding also. My plates expire in August and September, the 90 day window won't work for me. I can still renew one more time, before the effective date. That said, there is information that is being given lip service to possibly provide exemptions. I may still wait and see. However, if I can change the dates the plates are due, then I can plan to be in Texas in the Winter for meds, other business etc. If not, SD plate will go with the vehicle colors.
  9. Don't necessarily want to, but sometime this summer, South Dakota plates may be on our vehicles, as we pass through for a few days stay. Never have been a fan of state inspections, just another tax imho; and was hit twice by folks that did not have the inspection, nor insurance. There are still some choices for full-timers out there, if there is no way around this. JMHO, An ole Marine I worked with use to say, "You can't make Chicken Salad out of Chicken hmmmmm!" Semper Fi, Where are our Freedoms going? Away! Wayne, thanks for the link to the study. Looks like a typical government operation. They were paid by the word. 48 pages! Another they had to pass it before they knew what was in it, or Realized what was in it. Remember the Alamo/Goliad , somehow still has a ring to it today., Again, jmho.
  10. I have used Escapees since 2006. Once Texas implements the new safety inspection law which requires a safety inspection within 90 days of vehicle registration. Madison SD here we come. We were Florida residents and used the old Goodsam mail svc when we started fulltiming. Received great service from both companies.
  11. Our RV is almost 8 years old. I exercise the generator monthly without exception. When traveling from A to B, I run it all night during the summer. Trips are usually 3-5 days. Traveling other times, 3-6 hours during trips. We have done some limited boondocking, and during those times we observe generator hours, probably run the gen 2-4 hours. After almost 8 years I just hit 600 hours. That's just my experience and use. Determining usage, probably depends on the age of the RV the generator is in, etc.
  12. Ditto, I use 2 of the boosters, one for the living room, one in the bedroom. They work great on a fringe signal and they boost a 3 bar signal to 5.

  14. Bought the HTC One in February. Liked it so much bought the DW an HTC One for Christmas. Best phone I have ever used for reading kindle books that sync to all devices, pw protector that syncs to all devices, immediate weather alerts, news, etc. It is a mini computer that fits in my pocket or belt case. Oh yea, kids want to text, not talk, easy family connections with text, email, and voice calls. Oh yea, can print documents from it also if needed. Not the ringy dingy dings of the 50's Technology is great, and fun........ Actually my smartphone is worth more to me than satellite TV,,,,,,,,,that I use to pay dearly for just a few channels worth watching.....to me the HTC is a better value. Freedom still exists to some degree,,,,,your choice, I have mine. Happy and Safe roads ahead! Thanks for the reminder, the smartphone replaced a USB air card and router. The smartphone works as a wifi hotspot for 2 laptops, tablet, 2 kindles and another smartphone. Toooooo much technology,,,,,,toooooo little time.
  15. We have used 98 for years with Class C, A and TT's. It's a slower 2 lane route, but we preferred it when we had the time. Occasionally, there will be construction, depending on recent storm activity in some locations, nothing that never held us up for extended periods. Some great coastal views and just a laid back route. Some nice coastal communities to stop at for lunch, etc. If you have the time to meander, it can be an enjoyable diversion from interstate driving.
  16. Next Century For National Parks A new RV Volunteer Group has been created under the Next 100 years umbrella. RV Volunteer Group Created September 16, 2010 The RV Volunteer Group was created to collect, consolidate, communicate and facilitate the exchange of information between RV Volunteers, Volunteer Managers and others interested in the RV Volunteer experience. NPSVIP Network Both sites have registration requirements.
  17. Here is a link for a new site for National Parks, Next Century. 19. Too many places, and not enough time. I dread having to have service repairs, maintenance, etc., that I can not do myself. Finding honest & quality service facilities is a challenge. Research, research, research.,,,,,or the dreadful breakdown. You spends the $ and takes your chances. But the other 364 or 365 days are great! Have fun.
  20. Can't speak to their consignment business. Their parts service has been great. I have purchased tow bars, base plates, etc from them on several occasions. Excellent customer service. They have a good reputation with their parts department, which is why I started doing business with them. I have not read any negative comments about them over the years. Here are some reviews from rv service reviews. http://rvservicereviews.com/ReviewDetails.asp?Submit=&FacilityID=1571&State=TX&Search=&CategoryID= Good luck and as Wolfe said, due diligence.
  21. DW hates the day/nighters, when they break they get replaced with the ole fashion aluminum Bali blinds. 2 More to go.
  22. For the 1st time in about 10 years, I just purchased the supplies to do my own oil change. After reviewing and searching, there isn't a facility where I currently am located, that I would trust to do a simple oil change. I even get more nervous, when they don't want you in the facility while the work is being done. The Rear AC unit just went, as the compressor does not engage. Looked for service facility, here and next location. No luck, yet in finding one that I want to trust to do the work. Still have the front AC, will probably wait until we return to TX. Or, maybe I will find a reliable, reputable and trustworthy facility to do the repair. The front AC is carrying the load now, until! Over 37 years RV'n, that has always been the main concern, is finding someone that is not going to turn the thumb screw, and does the work right the first time. Won Some, Lost Some. It's interesting all the company's that have websites, and contacts, that seldom respond to a request for contact for service via phone or email. It will most likely never change. Homework and due diligence, when possible, is the best defense. There are good facilities and mechanics still there, just finding them is a task.
  23. Just Think,,,,who would have gotten the Blame if they guided him in and he hit it anyway. Maybe, Maybe, no good deed goes unpunished. Nice Pic.
  24. We are scheduled to Volunteer at Andersonville NHS. I posted the below on a Twitter site I maintain. @RVVolunteers A winter tour at Andersonville National Historic Site has been confirmed. So much history, so little time. But, time to be cherished. - 22 Jul Out of the Blue, a young Ranger responded to the above comment with this: @cwbarr @RVVolunteers we can't wait to have y'all. Looking forward to meeting you. I'm one of the rangers at ANDE. Welcome aboard! NPS Park Rangers are a Class Act! A little thing, but to me it is really cool. That brief comment speaks volumes. What a special group of young people, doing a special job! For not a lot of $$$$ Chris is a very fine representative for the National Park Service.
