    Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
    Vehicle Identification No. (VIN): 1C4PJMCS9EW...
    SUMMARY:

ON 10/18/2015, WHILE FLAT TOWING MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON I-5 NEAR SAN CLEMENTE, CA BEHIND OUR RV, WE SUDDENLY EXPERIENCED A VIOLENT SIDE TO SIDE SWERVING SENSATION. WHILE WORKING TO CONTROL THE RV, I VIEWED VIA THE REAR CAMERA, THE CHEROKEE ROCKING SIDE TO SIDE, VIOLENTLY SHAKING THE RV. THE 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO BE FLAT TOWED BEHIND THE RV, AND WAS CONNECTED TO THE RV WITH A BLUE-OX TOWING SYSTEM. I HAD PREVIOUSLY TOWED THE JEEP CHEROKEE APPROXIMATELY 14,000 MILES PRIOR TO THIS EVENT WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE VIOLENT SWAYING CONTINUED THROUGH THE BRAKING PROCESS, AND DID NOT CEASE UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. AFTER STOPPING ON I-5, A PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION DID NOT IDENTIFY AN OBVIOUS CAUSE SUCH AS A FLAT/SOFT TIRE ON THE RV OR JEEP, LOOSE OR DAMAGED TOW BAR. I SLOWLY EXITED THE INTERSTATE AND PARKED IN A SAFE LOCATION FOR A CLOSER INSPECTION. TURNING THE JEEP'S IGNITION TO "ON" WITHOUT STARTING, I NOTICED MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ELECTRONIC STABILITYCONTROL LIGHT WERE ILLUMINATED. AFTER CHECKING VARIOUS RV FORUMS, I DISCOVERED THAT OTHERS WITH 2014 JEEP CHEROKEES HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE WHICH SEEMS TO RESOLVE ITSELF AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I CONTINUED ON MY JOURNEY WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS AND THE WARNING LIGHTS ON MY DASH RESET WITHIN A DAY OR SO. IT APPEARS TO BE A UNIQUE PROBLEM TO 2014 JEEP CHEROKEES ACCORDING TO VARIOUS RV FORUMS. MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE ACTIVE DRIVE II TRANSMISSION SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR FLAT TOWING BEHIND MY RV.

Above is a copy of my report filed with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration regarding my event flat towing my 2014 Jeep Cherokee. I had previously towed this vehicle nearly 14000 miles before experiencing this phenomenon. Is there any site with Jeep to register our concerns, or should we just contact the local dealership?

  1. To update what has occurred with Dakota Post the last few days.

I've received several emails from Dakota Post including Bill Linsenmeyer, General Manager for Dakota Post, and had a pleasant phone conversation with Greg Kalesa, one of the owners of Dakota Post. As a result of these conversations, Dakota Post will be working with their bank to add Dakota Post to their charge statements, and they will be working with their IT provider to add notification to their customers just prior to annual account charges.

I'm confident that these actions will prevent my situation from occurring in the future. I was also impressed with their handling of this incident, and I'll continue to use their mail forwarding services.

Also, my fat fingers must have got in the way....the total yearly subscription was $228.96. Sorry for the confusion I caused.

  2. Just a heads up to FMCA members using Dakota Post as their mail forwarding service....Got up yesterday and found an alert from my credit card company regarding a transaction at 5:30 AM from ALTERNATIVE RESOURCES $296.77. I hadn't purchased anything, and after checking with my wife to verify she had not purchased anything, I immediately suspect my credit card has been compromised. I googled Alternative Resources, and a marijuana business came up. I called my CC company, and they were unable to determine who Alternative Resources was, so we agreed to cancel my credit cards and reissue a new one, since it obviously had been compromised.

Today I received an email from Michele at Dakota Post advising that Dakota Post DBA: Alternative Resources had processed my yearly subscription for $296.77! I called and spoke to Michele and to say the least, did not receive a satisfactory explanation. When I suggested that Dakota Post notify subscription holders IN ADVANCE of this transaction, her reply was "Do you know how difficult that would be?" Probably as difficult as it will be for me to wait a week or more till my new cards arrive, and then having to contact all my creditors and change my CC information with them to get my monthly bills paid!

So everyone needs to file away: DAKOTA POST bills as ALTERNATIVE RESOURCES. It seems to be way too difficult for them to bill as Dakota Post???

    Safe travels everyone!
