  1. Because I had a trip coming up and did not have more time to do an upgrade, I replaced the house with 2 12v group 31 batteries 800 CCA (Deka). Oh, and when I measured I only have room for the 2 house batteries and 1 chassis battery. I am not at the point where I want to build out the existing shelf and re-position the chassis battery. Thanks everyone! I have a lot to consider and more to learn before upgrading. A hopeful thought...Lithium batteries will be safest and most convenient solution in the near future Happy travels!
  2. I am new to the RV lifestyle. I bought my rig 3 months ago and went to my first FMCA rally this month. And you are on point, I love the FMCA focus on education and family. I was sharing my experience with my family and friends upon my return from "Rally in the Valley" and those who have 5th wheels/trailers wished they could benefit from such an organization. I read in this month's FMCA magazine the data which indicates there is a decrease in membership and membership growth is critical to FMCA's longevity. If FMCA were to go away, I would be gravely disappointed, and so would my family.
  3. Greetings! I am buying new chassis and coach batteries. I would like to augment my research with experience from fellow forum members. I have a 2002 Winnebago Adventurer 35U. The batteries are housed in the stairwell and are well ventilated under the carriage.I bought my rig, Addie, with 2-12V group batteries. I do not know if they are 24 or 27/31. I plan to do a lot of dry camping this year. I will likely be running the AC/Furnace/Heat Pump, and the TV/DVD/Radio/CD, as well as charging phones, tablets, and lap tops, and using lights and sometimes vacuuming when "at home". So, here are my curiosities: What is your experience with 24 and 27/31 group variety batteries? What kind of CCA/CA, AH and RC ratings should I be looking for? Considering the price of a liquid cell maintenance battery plus watering system cost, what is the difference in price between the AGM or GEL variety. I recognize among the varieties there are differing considerations depending on my RV lifestyle, so, if you have any perspective +/- among the 3 varieties I would greatly appreciate hearing them. Sharon
  4. Thank you Carl! I am having a diagnostic done to identify any electrical, connection and drain issues. Because of the age of the batteries and I do not know how the batteries where maintained before purchasing my rig I am going to install new batteries, chassis and coach. Am off to start a new string with my curiosities about what type of battery and respective CCA/CA, AH, and such other details I can learn about. Sharon
  5. Here is a link to the temperature compensate module I am thinking about installing. http://www.parallaxpower.com/4400tau-replacement-upgrade-4400tau
  6. Well, I am installing new batteries. You all have been so helpful with your comments, questions and suggestions. Thank you! Along with the batteries I'm adding the watering system to help me keep on top of the water levels. I think it will be worth the investment as I trek around the country this summer. I will certainly turn off the steps wayne77590! With respect to the temperature module...I just started researching this option and will let you know what I find out. Happy trails! Sharon
  7. Thank you so much! I feel a lot smarter
  8. Thank you all for the information and warm welcoming! I spoke with a tech engineer at Parallax and they actually recommend a temperature compensate module, which I am definitely thinking about having installed. Sharon
  9. Greetings, I just read Wolfe10's post about how over charged batteries can have a sewer type smell. I think I experienced that. My 2002 Winnebago Adventurer is equipped with 2- 12v batteries, a 30 amp/32v Paralax converter and an Onan 5500 gas generator. I also have an OEM 10 watt solar panel which is charging either house or chassis battery. The chassis battery is in the same compartment (stair well) as the house batteries. Could any one: 1. Educate me on the safety concerns associated with over charging batteries. 2. Enlighten me as to how the batteries can be overcharged. 3. How I can avoid over charging batteries in the future. 4. What do I do if the smell occurs again. Thank you in advance. Sharon Gorsch, F464157
  10. Greetings, I have a 2002 Winnebago Adventurer with a Chevy Workhorse Engine and Allison Transmission with just under 68,000 miles. I drive 55-62 MPH on the highway. I have discovered my rig runs on lower RPMs (1800-2000) when I drive with overdrive (OD) engaged on level roads and highways. When I dis-engage the OD on level roads/highways RPMs jump to 3000-4000, regardless of MPH speed. In addition, when OD is disengaged I get a tar/sewer smell. Further, on hills with OD engaged the RPMs jump to 4000-5000. I have had the rig regularly serviced and checked out and have been told all is functioning properly. I would like to be enlightened as to whether or not the RPMs and smell as described above is normal. If not, what can I do about it? Also, I would like to be advised as to whether or not driving with OD engaged all the time is good or bad for my engine and/or transmission. Truly perplexed, Sharon Gorsch, F464157
