Bicyclist- I have ridden bicycle trails on the east coast from Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, ME to part of the Overseas Heritage Trail, Key Largo to Key West, FL. There are a lot of great trails. They all have some unique characteristics. Favorite Trails- Acadia National Park, ME and Silver Comet Trail, GA
  1. My windows 7 computer automatically logs me in each time, but my XP computer does not. It does automatically log into other sites including many forums. I am sure it is just a setting that needs to be changed. Can someone help with the settings I should check? I have my cookie setting set to Medium-High. Paul
  2. If it is a modified sine wave inverter, an inexpensive multitester will not give you the correct voltage. As indicated below, it will read between 2% and 20% low. If your meter is reading 20% low, you could have a voltage of 146 volts. (80% of Voltage = 117 ---- Voltage = 146 volts) From "]http://www.powerstream.com/inFAQ.htm] www. powersteam.com Q: Why don't I measure rated voltages when using a multimeter on my modified sine wave inverter? A. The rated voltage is an RMS (root mean square--they square the value to make sure it is always positive, then average it, then take the square root of the average to make up for having squared it in the first place) measurement. Most multimeters are designed to give correct RMS readings when applied to sine waves, but not when they are applied to other waveforms. They will read from 2% to 20% low in voltage. Look for a voltmeter that braggs about "True RMS" readings. Paul
  3. I can help with Boston, but I need more information. I live on the South Shore. What do you have for an RV? (type and length) Are you looking to stay in a campground with a lot of amenities and activities for kids? Do you need full hookups? 30 or 50 amps? (A lot of campgrounds only have 30 amps, water and no sewer in the Northeast. Your campground options increase significantly if you can live without 50 amps and sewer.) Do want to be closer to Cape Cod (South Shore) or Salem area (North Shore). In other words, what else do you want to see while you are in the Boston area? Plymouth, Salem, Newport, RI etc Pets? Children? How many days and when do you think you will be in the Boston area (a lot of campgrounds are full during the summer and close Columbus Day weekend)? Paul
  4. UPDATE To FMCA's credit, I heard from someone at FMCA shortly after posting this morning. My Windows 7 machine appears to be working correctly. Unfortunately, my power adapter on my XP machine broke, so I have no idea if it the issue is resolved. I ordered a new power adapter. As soon as it arrives, I will post an update. Again, thank you for the quick response. Paul
  5. Occasionally, when I come to the FMCA.com, I do not have to log in, but most of the time I do. Logging in each time is a PIA, especially on the two computers that I am the only one using. I do not have a problem staying logged into anyplace else that allows you to stay logged in, so I am going to assume it is a problem with the website, not my computers. I have signed out numerous times and logged back in as suggested. The next time I come to the site, I have to log in again. It says that it is a hot topic, but no one has posted on it since March 18. I am sure that there would be a lot more people participating if this issue was resolved. Is FMCA working on this? JMHO Paul
  6. IMHO, stay away from Greenway Ford in Orlando. Years ago they charged me $1,800 to replace a fuel pump in a 95 Holiday Rambler. When I got home I discover I had been significantly overcharged. Paul
  7. I agree that we need more information about what RV you have. Assuming that the heat is coming from the engine, it is possible that the insulation is missing from your side of the doghouse. Paul
  8. Hi Gary. You must have missed the part when I mentioned "take it to a reputable RV dealer that sells RV parts," lol If my motorhome broke down in their driveway, I would have it towed elsewhere, of course by CoachNet. Camping World needs to start a program where ALL their techs become certified by a nationally recognized provider. "On the job training" is not working. Paul
  9. If you take a cell phone picture of the porch light and take it to a reputable RV dealer that sells RV parts, they will be able to tell you which lamp is supposed to go in the fixture. From experience, putting the wrong bulb in overheated the fixture and caused the lens to melt. I had to replace the porch light. LED's are very sensitive to voltage fluctuation. LED's have two methods to regulate the voltage, voltage regulator circuits or resistors. It has been reported that some very low cost LEDs don't have any voltage regulation at all and will not last. The voltage regulation circuit method is the more expensive method, but in some LED's have been know to cause RF interference.. I am not an expert, so my point is to do your research before spending any money on LED's. http://www.superbrightleds.com/ have been recommended many times on different forums. If nothing else, they have a lot of good information about LED's. I have never purchased from them. I replaced the marker lights on our RV with the exact LED replacement from a local large truck parts store. (One was leaking, so I replaced all of them) The expense of switching out the interior bulbs with LED's does not seem cost effective to me until the cost of the good ones comes down significantly. Paul
  10. I was just going to post the exact same question as the OP, but did a search instead and found this thread. I called and ordered two sets of ladder brackets several weeks ago and was told they would be shipped in two days. A week ago I called and left a message inquiring about the status of the order. I did not receive a return call. Unlike the OP, my credit card has not been charged. Tonight I tried to use their feedback link. The error message stated that I needed some sort of server. I then sent an email which was rejected the same as the OP's. IMHO FMCA needs to find another vendor as this company has absolutely no customer service. They need to decide if they want to stay in business and if so, get their act together. I have already spent more time then I care to on this order. FMCA, do you want to check into this order also, before I cancel it and spend the next week trashing them on every RV forum I can. IMHO, there is no excuse for not returning my telephone call and not having any other way to contact them, such as email. I am glad the OP's order was resolved. I hope he posts when and if he receives them. Paul EDIT UPDATE - Received the brackets today in the mail.
  11. Bill and Tom, thank you, that is what I needed to know. I am sure that this will help others as they make plans to attend FMCA conventions across the country. As many times as we have dry camped, I forgot about having to drive a couple hundred miles from my last stop to the fairgrounds with a full water tank. (My wife will have already flown home.) Another reason for a FAQ. I will be making a reservation in a campground in Perry in the next day or so. Anyone have the name of the campground across the street that Bill mentioned or a recommendation for one near the fairgrounds? Again thank you for the help. Paul
  12. I am interested in attending FMCA's 85th Family Reunion & Motorhome Showcase, which will be held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry, Ga., from March 14 to 17, 2011, but have a few questions. IMHO, for those of us who will be attending our first convention, there should be an FAQ section that explains terms such as Passport, etc., instead of just the refund policy. The convention is from March 14 to 17. What are the arrival and departure times and dates? Do you arrive the day before? Can you leave the day after it closes? In the generator section(s), is there room to put your awning out, or are you parked so close you can't? If we are parked close, can someone please make a recommendation for a nearby campground for a 40-footer? What are generally the nighttime temperature in Perry at this time of year? I don't want to listen to generators all night, but it beats temperatures that are uncomfortable to sleep in. Low 70s or less, I will go with the 7 - 11 generator; above that, the 24-hour generator. Is there enough to see and do for four days? I will be towing ... is there a parking area for the toad? Is there a tentative list of participating vendors and activities online? Is there a dump station? I will have been on the road for a couple months before coming to Perry. Any other suggestions or hints would be greatly appreciated. We have been camping for many years, but this will be my first convention. Thanks for any help. Paul P.S. I have been an FMCA member for a lot longer than "Joined: 7-December 09." What is that all about?
