  1. Last week of October we will be visiting friends near Wilmington, NC and need find a place to drop off our motor home (40 DP) for a couple days. I hope to find an inexpensive campground or other secure place. I want to be able to keep it plugged in (20a is ok) just to keep the batteries up and refrigerator on. Any advice??
  2. I will be traveling from Gatlinburg, TN to Wilmington, NC in mid October, driving a 40 foot DP, towing a car. Looks like I could either take a south route through Columbia, or a north route through Winston-Salem. Time is not a concern. I may stop over at a midway RV park to break up the trip. Any comments on which route might be better for motor home travel, as well as midway RV park recommendations will be much appreciated.
  3. I have a 2008 Winni Tour DP. This week while driving in hot weather (90+) I ran both the cab air and the generator to keep the interior comfortable for the grandkids. After several hours I got a red alert light on my inverter control panel with a message that said the battery charging function was shut down due to excessive battery heat. This happened each hot day while on the move. Once we stopped, things returned to normal. My question is, is this is a normal electrical safety function, or is it something that I should be concerned about and have checked out? Thanks.
  4. We will be taking two of our grandchildren by motorhome from Minneapolis to the Florida Panhandle this June. We have not yet determined our route or attractions along the way. Recommendations of RV parks that might interest the kids (ages 6 and 7), as well as attractions along the way would be very much appreciated.
  5. Thanks. This information was very helpful. We ended up staying at Larry and Penny Thompson County Park in south Miami. It was a very nice campground with easy access on and off the Turnpike. Advance reservations are probably important in order to get a site there. Allowed us to get an early start on the drive through the Keys. We would definitely stay there again.
  6. Just returned from a trip to Key West and stayed at Elite Resorts at Citrus Valley. This is a newer campground with very nice facilities. We had a pull through site with paver surface. The pool and recreation areas looked nice. The people there seemed friendly and helpful. Downfalls for us were that to head south on 27 you have to exit north then make a u-turn (we drove around a block through a residential area to get South) and there is not an easy access to the Florida Turnpike. We would definitely stay there again. We were driving a motorhome with tow car.
  7. Thanks for the info. We did top off at Dade Market on the way down, and again on the return trip. Easy in and out. Came in from the Turnpike on the way down, and stopped on the way to I75 on the return.
  8. We will be traveling in late January to Key West, driving a 40 ft DP with a tow. Looks like we have lots of options when it comes to RV parks the night before we hit the Keys. I am more concerned about finding a good diesel fill location along 95 or the Turnpike. I see there is a Flying J near Ft. Pierce -- I'm concerned that might be stretching it for a round trip to Key West. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Also, I am thinking about taking 27 north on the return trip just for a change in scenery. Any comments about the condition of 27 for RV travel will also be much appreciated.
  9. Traveling late January to Key West for first time in 40-foot DP with tow car, staying at Blue Water Key. We plan to stay the night before in south Florida so we have a fresh drive through the Keys in the morning. Also looking for good RV diesel fuel location so we can make the round-trip through the Keys without stopping for fuel. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
