  1. Just a recount of my first experience with Roadside Rescue: A couple weeks ago I curbed a curbside front wheel passing through a narrow toll gate. The only damage other than my pride appeared to be a small scuff on the wheel. We put the 2003 Beaver Monterey away in our shop/storage building and went on with life. On 5/25/22 I noticed that the MH was down almost on the wheel rim and the tire bead was separated from the wheel. Closer inspection revealed that the TST Tire Pressure transmitter and valve stem were slightly displaced and scuffed. I tried most of the tricks that I know to inflate the tire (with the exception of one that I have never used on a tire that large and was a little fearful of) so that the source of the leak could be determined for sure and repaired. I also tried to remove the wheel so that I could take the pair to a tire shop. No joy with the available tools. I finally decided yesterday 5/26 to ask Roadside Rescue if they could send service to remove the wheel for me or at least inflate it so that I could drive to the tire shop. At 09:57 I called and talked with the call screener and they asked many questions regarding membership and physical specifics of the vehicle and situation. They determined that the service was covered and that they would connect me with a "Roadside Connect" service scheduler. Most of the questions were repeated with the exception of location, vehicle size etc. About an hour and a half later a tech from "Mr. Quick Pick" out of Tulsa, OK showed up in a minivan with a four-way and apologies for not being able to help with a large vehicle! I called Roadside Rescue back and was connected with a different service scheduler. They didn't ask as many questions as I suppose that the original ticket was still open. They put me on hold for a good while. When they came back on I was told that the service provider could not inflate the tire or remove a wheel and that they could only tow the MH to a service shop! This was not an option due to building height and and a concrete drive not rated for a heavy rescue vehicle. I then called a local truck shop, and one hour and $256 later the tire was inflated. I will monitor the leak situation and drive to a tire shop if necessary. I will not being renewing the Roadside Rescue plan and will instead just pay for service that I schedule.
  2. I have read so many reviews about roadside assistance it seems to be a waste of money. If you get a flat you still have to buy a tire so if someone comes out you get what from roadside assistance? If your motorhome engine or transmission has a problem is where it seems to be touchy about what they will do. Most of us big motorhomes will have to be towed with large tow trucks cause large flatbeds aren't that many around the USA. So the policy says they tow you to the nearest service provider. I have read many providers they tow you to can't do any repairs then you are stuck there in someone's parking lot who can't help you. When you call back, they tell you that you cannot be towed to any other place else because they did their part as per the policy. So now you have to find on your own dollar aa tow truck to take you to a qualified and able to help mechanic and not a gas station mechanic. Ford Dealer, Freightline chassis service center or someone who can do the work. So now you spend $500 more to get towed and the policy will not reimburse you. So why not save your money and fly on your own and pay on your own? It just seems they are all a big scam to not give you what you pair for. I know some here will say read your policies fine print... I'm willing to pay for a tow to a dealership who can do the work with no limits on miles, but that policy doesn't exist in FMCA, GS or any other company that sells insurance policies. So, lets here from all who think these policies are worth your hard-earned money. I don't want to hear from the ones who had 1 instance but want to hear from all who have the horror stories to tell and agree what I say above.
  3. After several trips to the Fort Myers area, we decided to buy a lot. Also, if we are not using lot, the office will rent the lot out if we wish to be in their rental program (70/30 split). I am seeking recommendations on RV site/lot liability coverage as well as for the storage shed and tiki hut on the lot. I would want to make sure the liability insurance protects me and provides coverage if the lot renter does something stupid and gets injured on my lot. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  4. Does anyone have any experience (I hope not, but.....) with Emergency Assistance Insurance, where if you or your spouse has heart problems or any other problems and need to be Hospitalized, and can't drive your RV, where the Insurance Company will pay to fly you, your spouse and pet, on a medical airplane home, then arrange for your RV to be brought home, also? I would appreciate any 'first hand' help on this. Thanks, McCord
  5. My RV insurance written by Allstate in Georgia is going up from $509/yr to $690/yr so I thought I'd take advantage of the RV Insurance DISCOUNT offered by FMCA. I mean that's one of the main reasons we join FMCA right? The Discounts? FMCA quoted me $1257/yr. Imagine my shock. I read over my Allstate policy and it's pretty good. Not a lot of exclusions. Not any more than some others I've been reading about on this forum. FMCA quote had a $2500 deductible. Allstate's deductible was $500. Needless to say I'm disappointed with the "discount" I was given through FMCA. With the purchasing power of THOUSANDS of RV owners I'm not sure anybody is profiting over this deal except the insurance companies and the kick backs given to FMCA for all the policies sold to it's members. I was one guy buying a policy from Allstate. FMCA represents THOUSANDS of members and this is the best pricing structure they can offer? Again, I'm disappointed. 6. Howdy all. I have read several threads but am still conflicted. My current extended warranty is expiring. I looked into replacing it and the cost is now $12K for 3 yrs/30K miles. That is about triple what I paid 4 yrs ago when I bout the coach. I have used the policy over the last 4 years but probably did not break even between original cost and what my share of the bills added up to. The coach has 62,300 miles on her. I will be retiring in the next 2 yrs and will hit the road full time. I know if one of the major systems dies like engine, transmission, AC, or Jacks the cost could be pretty high for repairs. With that said I feel the odds for that are not that great. I could be wrong though. Please provide what you all think or have done. Thanks
  7. Any ideas or thoughts on protective film for windshield protection. I’m having a windshield replaced by Safelite and would like to avoid the same experience again, if it can be avoided. The invoice to insurance was about $3500. Not sure how to remedy this for the future, or just continue to carry the comprehensive coverage with full glass coverage. It seems that with the high cost of these windshields on Class A MH, the insurance companies would promote a reliable protection plan, credits, or options. Will my premiums continue upwards, I hope not. In my investigation, I'm hearing you can't protect from an object getting hurled at 60+ mph from cracking the glass, no matter what film is installed, whether it is 4 mil or whatever, the thickness of a credit card, it's still going to impact and cause damage. Another vendor indicates about $1500(just a guestimate) to purchase and/or install material and may/maynot carry a warranty on the glass and the film, but full disclosure or knowledge was not really available, because of being a third party to the product. Not sure of the best product, but was inquiring about a material called ClearPlex. Anyone with ideas, knowledge or experience with this subject, please share. Thank you.
  8. HI, I have my RV (I'm full time), car and small utility trailer through the FMCA insurance program here in Florida. Last year I removed one car and had two points removed from my license (2 left). I just received my new policy and the yearly increase in insurance is about $850.00! What gives? When I contacted the carrier I was told basically take it or leave it! Note: this is same carrier that Camping World uses. Any one have any better insurance plans that they know of?
  9. Have you heard of Campanda?? It's a way of generating income from your "inactive periods" from your RV.. Sounds interesting.. but, wait.. I looked at this and concluded that it's probably not worth the aggravation, risk or insurance costs... Campanda among other companies that do this say that they cover any risks, but, you still need to have personal insurance, and while my insurance company told me that they would cancel my policy if I rented it out... other companies that would not object, State Farm Insurance.. would supposedly allow it.. An option is to ask the renter to provide insurance certificate for personal liability, and property damage while they have physical possession of the rental of your vehicle. Unfortunately, from all my research on this subject, the general consensus is that unless you have "commercial insurance"... you're running the risk of physical and financial loss and exposure.. https://www.rvrentalconnection.com/business-articles/commercial-rv-rental-insurance-vs-website-offered-rv-insurance-100 Any thoughts on this...?
  10. I purchased insurance for all my vehicles (at the time 4 cars and an RV) from National General after finding them as a partner with FMCA. For years, never had a claim until recently when my RV was damaged in a wind storm. Debris struck the windshield shattering it and damaged part of the roof. I filed a claim, took it to were they wanted it to go, their adjuster came out and recommended a "Winnebago approved repair" that would result in a visible seam along one side of my roof and would not return my RV to pre-damage condition - a solid fiberglass roof which is why I purchased my RV. The repair shop they sent me to does not recommend this repair as it will devalue the RV and could leak in the future and changes how the water runs off the roof. I told National General I would not accept this repair. My email was ignored until weeks later I sent a follow-up email and was told they had sent a check to the repair shop "last month" and basically they were not going to accept the recommended repair by the shop they sent me too. I have asked for a supervisor and that's been ignored too. I've had my attorney look at the policy and he told me that National General had to repair the RV by returning it to it's pre-damage state, not a substandard repair. So the RV continues to sit with a shattered windshield, roof that needs repair and not being able to be used for over 30 days now. Fair warning. They want your money but don't make a claim as it is nothing but a hassle. If National General is still an FMCA partner where is FMCA's assistance to support one of their members. I called FMCA headquarters and after being on hold for a long time it then said leave a message which I did.
  11. We're doing comparisons of all the RV insurance plans available and wonder which is the best. Do any of you have recommendations? Who do you use?
  12. I did not see a forum for Insurance. I would highly recommend it so we can discuss providers, policy coverage, claims experience and the like. Tim
  13. I did not see a forum dedicated to insurance and I will suggest one. Does anyone have specific comments on claims experience with National Interstate and Blue Sky? I have a Blue Sky policy (Full Timer, Replacement Value) and am looking to switch to National Interstate with the same (Full Timer, Replacement Value). SInce I am the original owner it appears I can keep the Replacement Value coverage which is REAL important to us Full Timers. National is coming out very competitive with pricing, but I have the benefit of having read my Blue Sky policy and understand coverage. No issues with them at all, just quite a bit more expensive. Tim
  14. Hi, I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with Nationwide Warrantees? It seemed like a great deal at first well of course "if it look too good... it's NOT!" When trying to make a claim last month I have found them to be arrogant, nasty, and totally unhelpful to their customers. I started the policy in November of last year with no claims till now and a couple of thousand dollars in payments to them. Last year I decided to look for a now extended warrantee for my 1997 Discovery 36RS coach. Nationwide offered 4 years for the price of 3. Well to cut along story short I tried to make a claim for my fridge and not only was it denied but with very nasty conversations and voice mail messages from them. They treated my like dirt and basically told me we don't care about you and we are not going to honor our contract. When I tried to contact them again, it took 3 emails and 2 phone calls I was fed up so I said CANCEL my policy and give me a refund. I was told it had to be in writing, which I did immediately. Another nasty email from a supervisor who told me to go jump in a lake and they are NOT going to give me any portion of my money back. A warning to anyone out there looking for an Extended Service Warrantee... do NOT use Nationwide Warrantee as they are a rip off... I am still fighting to get my money back. Keep smiling Phill
  15. We just purchased a new Allegro Bus and looked at our options for RV insurance. When we notified our current insurance company, GEICO, they wanted, for a similar policy, about $600/year more than what we had been paying...BUT they would only insure us if the deductible was INCREASED from $1000 to $10,000. We have excellent driving records and no accidents, but within the past six months had a claim for vandalism while the motorhome was in storage. That's a ten-fold increase in the deductible!!! The vandalism was covered by our comprehensive clause, and we've since moved to a more secure storage location. (The original storage, although, was in a secured facility. Kids shot the MH with a pellet gun through the chain-link fence.) Wanting to get alternate quotes, we called the FMCA endorsed provider, GMAC. The agent was very pleasant and took all the information, and even solicited insuring both our cars at the same time. He told us that if we agreed to insure both cars, he could approve the policy immediately, but without the cars, it would take an underwriter review that would take 24 hours. We agreed to include both cars, and gave him all the necessary information, only to hear that when he submitted the application, the "system" told him we would need an underwriter review. (misrepresentation #1) He agreed to call us by mid-day the next day. We are on the road traveling until the end of the month. No call. We followed up and left two messages, finally calling the main number for GMAC to try to get a response. After 24 hours, the agent finally called back, telling us that for some reason, the underwriting group hadn't gotten back to him yet. He seemed very surprised, but assured us we would have the review within the next 24 hours (misrepresentation #2) Another day passes without any word. Finally, on the third day, the agent called again and assured us they would soon review the policy, and lots of excuses about workload, lack of the agent getting return calls from underwriters, etc. In the last call, two days ago, he assured us he'd keep working on it, but recommended we renew our existing policy so we would have continued insurance coverage!!! (Recommending we continue to deal with a competitor!) Now, at the end of another business day, no further word from GMAC. This is really amazing to us for a company that carries the FMCA endorsement. Again, we have excellent driving records and the only claim of any substance in all our years of RV ownership has been this vandalism. I think GMAC is simply trying to ignore us and hope we'll go away. This is NOT the kind of service I'd expect for the company that carries FMCA's endorsement, to say the least. If we do not get a response from GMAC by the time we get home, we're filing a complaint with our state insurance commission. I think an applicant, especially one who has the FMCA membership as a reference, deserves a business-like response. The new motorhome cost about $300K. GEICO and GMAC both told us that since it is a "high value" unit, they require special premiums and reviews before approval. I can understand that if we bought a million dollar high=end unit, but one that cost $300K?
  16. For the second time, we've had our insurance cancelled without notice by Poliseek, our agent with Blue Sky Insurance. Probably, it's yet another admin goof on their end, the first stemming from a change to our autocharge due to internal problems at Citibank. I have no doubt this is another admin flub, but these are adding up. If members have a preferred insurance provider, I'd enjoy hearing your input. After-Action Report: I screwed up, plain and simple. 'Mis-read their correspondence, am pleased to report all is fine with Poli-Seek and Blue Sky. Summed up, the sole negative is that we had to submit paperwork to back up a change to the autocharge card number, which seems a needless pain. Wayne from Strictly Cycles and I were just on the phone, a great character and a pleasure to deal with. Thanks for his, and all the other, links. We pack a powerful punch, minimize our mistakes, by comparing notes and watching each others' backs. For that, you have my gratitude, each and every one of you! Pilots aren't supposed to make mistakes like this...Controller: "Descend two four hundred." Flying Tigers Crew: "Roger, descend to four hundred." Or, on one flight in the American Southwest: Copilot: "Hey, isn't the minimum altitude here... <BANG!>" Lots of other examples, in aviation history.
  17. I just purchased a partially restored 1976 GMC motorhome. The RV can be registered in my state with antique motor vehicle plates. However, the state law stipulates the motorhome with antique plates can only be used on the road for attending rallies, participating in parades, etc. Therefore I registered the RV with the department of motor vehicles with "normal" license plates for a RV. I contacted my insurance company and requested coverage based on an "agreed upon value" since the motorhome is an antique and book values may not be appropriate. Upon receipt of my policy, I did not receive the requested "agreed upon value" coverage. We are now negotiating the insurance coverage anticipating they will capitulate and honor my request. What is the "accepted practice" for insurance coverage for antique RVs? Is the "agreed upon value" the correct coverage? Other options?
