Hi all techies out there... I have been trying to build a new NAS on my coach. I have multiple WD RED drives (1x10TB, 4x4TB, 2x3TB(external)) I purchased the 10TB so I could consolidate the 2 external drives. My problem is cost of unit and now OS. almost 6 months ago I purchased an F2 TNAS from TerraMaster and after several weeks of tech support it was decided that the unit was defective. TerraMaster offered to replace the unit I decided to upgrade to their F4 unit for a small charger. I then purchased WD RED 4x4TB drives, per TerraMaster's suggestion. Well after another 4-5 months of late night tech calls (they are in China) and their refusal to send me a replacement unit I decided to cash out (so to speak). They let me keep the NAS and refund me half my money. It had taken so lone I was just happy to move on. My latest email to their tech informed me that the OS was propriety and that the drives and data would have to be scrubbed before using in another NAS. Is there a standard of OS for NAS boxes? My first task when I get another NAS is to determine a method of transferring all the data from one NAS to another. Hopefully that should not be too much of a task, just time. My question to all you RV techies is what NAS to purchase? I am thinking I need a 5 bay diskless NAS that is very reasonably priced. (FYI - I am your typical retired person living in my RV year round workamping to make ends meet so cost is a factor for me.) Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Do you pay for indoor storage? Is this necessary? Depending upon your climate, maybe you pay for indoor storage that is temperature controlled? And what is the cost per foot do do this? Is there security at these storage locations? Is this 24/7 accessible? Does storing your rig reduce overall maintenance?

We are looking to find a safe and inexpensive place to leave our rig while we take RT flights from Hobby airport early on Sunday morning April 1st and returning Wednesday April 25th. Enter room - drop soap box - climb aboard. OK; this bugs me and I just want to blurt this out.....WHY DO PEOPLE STEAL LUG NUT COVERS??? What the ****? You can afford a 500 hundred thousand dollar motorhome, but you can't afford to your own lug nut covers? Three times...THREE TIMES...I have gone to move my coach from storage and covers are gone. The last time they were too lazy to put the tire covers back on. Can someone, ANYONE explain this to me? Thank you. Retrieve box and exit.......

We are going to be in Texas for the month of January, home (NC) for February and then Arizona for March for FMCA. Instead of driving home after our Texas tour we are considering leaving the coach in either Fort Worth or Austin, flying home and then flying back in about three weeks to continue our trek to Arizona. It will surely be easier on the coach and our bodies and I “think” in the long run it will be less expensive. Can anyone give me any ideas on where we could keep the RV in either of those areas? Are there any local RV parks that we could consider? An RV friend suggested we do this but I am at a loss as how to even start the process. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Hi Folks, Being new to 22.5 tire maintenance, I was wondering if anyone would have any feedback to my long term storage proposal to remove some of (if not all) weight from my tires. First let me say I made contact with both FL and HWH just to ensure that there are no structural implications or potential damage to my RV. I'm thinking of dropping the air of my RV and allowing the chassis to sit on (4) blocks which would be just under the retracted HWH leveler pad - maybe 1 to 1.5 inches. As the air dumps the weight of the unit goes to the leveler and spacer block under. The pilot air dump removes the air from the bags, so there would be little weight on the tires after they make contact with the spacer blocks under the leveler pads, just the front suspension and rear axle. This would make sure that the hydraulic leveling system, if it bleeds a little doesn't effect the stored height along with put weight back on the tires. According to HWH it implies similar or the same loads as the system being extended, just with the levelers retracted. My RV drops about 2" to 3" approx, so I was thinking of just a little more than 1" would be sufficient. In this case the levelers are retracted and not exposed to any environment, even though it is in a garage. Just curious if anyone has tried something similar. Thanks for any feedback.

Hi everyone! New to this forum and new to RVing. We just acquired a Vintage RV (1981 Bluebird Wanderlodge FC-33) and we are in need of a space where we can park/store this vehicle AND do some interior work on it. We plan to be full-timers in a year or so, but we have a project on our hands in the meantime!!! Anyone have a commercial building with an overhead door and some space AND a soft spot in their heart for someone with such a "project" ? Happy to RENT or BARTER for this space (I got skills in the Computer area...been a computer consultant to small business for 30 years prior to retirement 1 Jan 2015). Not sure what protocol is for contact information...if you have or know of a such an option for us, reply here and we'll figure that out! Thanks in advance for your gracious consideration of our need.

Today, I parked our "Cottage on Wheels" in its winter storage spot. It will be dry and out of the weather - see photo. A former lumber yard in our area has converted some of their buildings to storage, and advertised locally this fall. After confirming that they could accommodate a 32' Class A, and that it could be parked such that we could take it out for a planned winter excursion (more on this below), we sent a deposit. We also checked with others who store a MH, and found that the price was about right. A few weeks ago, as our Maine weather started to dip below freezing, I winterized the coach. I'm not totally new to this. We've had trailers before. One frustration was that this rig has not had a water heater bypass installed. I would have put one in before winterizing, but the water heater plumbing is not very accessible on this rig. I thought of a scheme where I could pump anti-freeze in the hot side first, then drain and recover some from the water heater, reusing it in the cold side. When I looked things over, i found that the gas plumbing runs in front of the water heater drain in such a way that it would be difficult to rig a drain extension hose, or even a funnel, to catch the pink stuff. So, I just put in more RV anti-freeze and filled the whole thing. Using the leveling jacks, I tipped the coach up so that the inlet from the water tank was definitely the low point. That allowed me to pump from a small quantity of anti-freeze in the water tank, without sucking air. After I had confirmed how much I needed, I went back to Wal-mart and bought enough more RV anti-freeze to re-winterize on the way back from our winter trip to Florida. That way, I won't have to be searching for it on the way. Wal-mart sells an off-brand RV anti-freeze for $2.97 par gallon, and Prestone brand for $4.97 a gallon. Given that I use quite a bit of the stuff, and I'm just going to throw it away anyhow, I buy the cheaper brand. Both claim they're good to -50 F. When I got to the old lumber yard/storage place, I had a few minutes to snoop around while the proprietor was waiting on another customer. I didn't like the looks of some of the buildings, and some of the doors did not look wide enough or tall enough. I was very pleased when it was my turn, and the man led me to one of the newer buildings with a huge door and a nice concrete floor. Honoring our request, he had saved a spot for me where I can drive right out. On the way home, Grandma commented that we could store the MH for more than 10 years for what it would cost to build a shed for it on our property. She's right, though I do like the thought of having my own storage, with at least an electrical hookup. As a compromise step, I may someday make a nice level parking space next to our garden shed, then run electricity to the shed, with an outlet for the coach. In mid to late January, we'll pull the MH out of storage and take it to a shop about 25 miles from here that does truck alignments and suspension work. I have already checked with them to confirm that I can have them install the new Bilstein shocks that I have purchased, while I have it in to them for an alignment. I'll have them do a chassis lube as well. I did an oil and filter change myself, less than 200 miles ago. I also have a steering stabilizer on backorder, which will be installed at the same time. My part-time work slows up in the winter, so it's a good time to take off. We are going from Maine to Florida, where we plan to spend about a month. We haven't nailed down our departure date. It will depend somewhat on the weather, but will be at the end of January or the first part of February. I have to be back for some work-related training in the last week of March. Later, I'll post about the Florida trip, and perhaps about how our chassis handling improvements worked out.

Does anyone have knowledge of a heated storage facility in the Denver Co. area for storage of a coach and car. We would like to drive from TN to Co in Dec to ski for 2 weeks, store the coach and fly home. In March we would fly back pick up the coach ski 2 weeks, then drive it home. Thanks for any help. I have a 2007 Georgetown Motorhome model 373. I have had 2 hinges fail in the past 6 months on my basement compartments in my Georgetown Motorhome. I replaced one late last year and now another has failed. The dealer said the hinge cost about $50 to replace. Does anyone have any ideas of where I might get a part like this. I have been everywhere. I am ready to pay the $50 but I think it is ridiculous for a hinge. Any Ideas?
