  1. My wife was complaining about diesel smell and dirt getting in the drawers of rear cabinet. I removed the cabinet and was shocked of why. The coach builder felt that thin carpet was a great filler for a 1/2 inch gap across the back wall. Then they hid the gap behind a cabinet. I fixed it and he...

    From the album: Back wall

The coach builder hid their sin behind this cabinet. If it wasn't for my wife I wouldn't know there was a problem lurking behind it.

    7 back together

    From the album: Back wall

Cabinet is screwed back to the wall with the repair in place. You can notice caulk line to both side of the cabinet but it is better than an air leak. If you look over to the right there is a couple of ink spots on the carpet. Those ink spots won't come out and was left by previous owner.

    6 caulked

    From the album: Back wall

I had to make two passes of caulk allowing it to dry 24 hours between. Notice that I did all the way across with the caulk as well as the caulk backing.

    From the album: Back wall

Since there is an 1/2 inch gap there must be a filler and backing before the caulk. This is a 1/2 inch rubber backing made for this purpose. I did this all the way across the bottom of the floor and down the side of step area.

    From the album: Back wall

The next thing to do is remove the carpet from the raise step area. This step is here because the coach has a stacked radiator and charge air cooler in the rear and this makes clearance for that. Notice the 1/2 inch gap through the back wall. That is the coach makers quality at it's best. NOT

    1 carpet

    From the album: Back wall

My wife complained of little diesel smell and draft at rear of coach. Also there was dirt getting in the rear cabinet drawers. I removed the cabinet from the rear wall and found that the coach builder thought that this thin carpet would fill a 1/2 inch gap through rear wall.
