Absolutely doable.  Maybe not with hookups but certainly possible.  The Fishing Bridge campground opens May 5th and is the only park that will handle an RV over 35'.  You can get a lot of information about other sites available and when they open here http://www.yellowstonenationalparklodges.com/lodging/camping/

Camping outside the park during that time of year should not be an issue at all.

It depends on how early you go. Some things arn't open till later. Look at the park website.

I tend to stay outside the park. This last summer we stayed on 20 outside of West Yellowstone because we were doing some stuff in that area.
