Lewisburg WV Rally and Habitat Build

Recommended Posts

Some of you may have heard of the FMCA ENERGIZED Habitat for Humanity build in association with the Lewisburg Rally.  We want to provide you with the details in case you are interested in lending a helping hand.  We are going to do two separate weeks, the week before and the week after the GEAR Rally.

Week A will arrive September 25 by 5pm for a 6:30 meeting and work 9am-4pm September 26-30.

Week B will arrive (or stay after the rally) October 9 by 5pm for a 6:30 meeting and work 9am-4pm October 10-14.

The fairgrounds (where the Eastern Area Rally is held) is providing full hookup 50 amp service for $15 per night for build volunteers (you must be on the list). A local church will provide us lunches. The minimum age to help with the build is 15.  If the children are a little younger, they could help in the church kitchen preparing our lunches.

People do not have to have any skills to participate.  Our lead, Fred, has worked with groups that were lawyers and doctors that had no experience and it's amazing how quickly people can catch on.  If we have people that can't do this type of work, there are other jobs such as cleaning brushes or sweeping, as well as helping in the kitchen with lunches.  Or just moral support.

There is a large range of projects that are being worked on right now...building from the ground up as well as working on damaged properties...every range of construction.

What we do will be determined based on the needs of the community when we get there.

The Greater Greenbrier Long-term Recovery Committee is the funding host. They will be supplying all the building materials and tools needed to do the job.  If there is a tool needed they will make sure they get it right away for us.  If you have a special tool you like to use bring it with you.

Due to liability concerns from FMCA we are going to do this build with our FMCA Habitat Chapter.  This puts us under the FMCA umbrella and helps our Habitat for Humanity Chapter too.  We will have to pay $15 to join the Habitat Chapter for the build but we will make this back with a free cookout at the end of the build and $15 per night for full hookups!  Not to mention the fun each evening celebrating our success!

For the builds we are going to try to park where we won't have to move (unless you want to) for the rally.

To volunteer or if you have any questions please email fmcaenergized@gmail.com

If you would like to volunteer and are not already on the list please email us which week or weeks you would like to help with so we can add you to the list.
