Polygraph Testing??

Recommended Posts

I am applying for a winter Workamping position and this is in the agreement that they want me to sign. This is in a RV Resort in the southwest and is in exchange for the site (up to 24 hrs week) maintenance and escorting.

"further agrees to random polygraph testing throughout the term of employment only as it may relate to items that could affect, influence, or subject the company to misappropriation, defalcation, inappropriate actions or the like."

Has anyone seen this before? I do not think I want to do this. Your Thoughts.

It's your choice. If the examiner asks you questions you don't want to answer you can just walk away and find another place to work.

That must be one high class place to park.

I would agree, it suggests a hostile working environment and I would walk away from that job offer.  If it were the only job available and you really needed it, or if the compensation were really way above other offers you might get, maybe it would deserve some consideration.  I would tell them no and tell them why.  Polygraphs are notoriously unreliable.  If I'm not mistaken, they are not admissible as evidence in court.

I took a polygraph test years ago and it showed that what I was saying was true.  My employer did not care and fired me anyway.  Imagine the reverse.  You did nothing wrong but a polygraph examiner says you are lying.  I learned my lesson early on and I am never going to put myself in a position where I have depend upon an machine and a "trained" operator to determine my fate.

Update I have declined this Workamping position because of the polygraph test and that this position will generate a W-2 some thing that can and may not work well for me. Also a glitch in a test could hurt me down the road in my current position and future positions.

Bottom line I have a good reputation and a good position that a screwed up test would totally mess up.

Thanks to all who posted.
