Campers With Children Under 20-- Check In!

Recommended Posts

Joe,

You can let me know through Carl and hopefully we can join you'll. As for the two girls, close to Carl's place in Galveston you have both the Beach (sand) and the Strand (Historic Street). And not too far is Kemah (maybe 20 minutes) and it's Board Walk.

Also in the same area is Brett Wolfe, Wayne and Blake.

Herman.  Galveston Island also have a Pleasure Pier, owned by Tillman Ferttita , the same one who owns Kemah, a dozen + Restaurant chains (like Landry's) and the Golden Nugget Casino's!  He was born and lives in Galveston, also has too many other homes, 185 foot boat with helicopter and a Gulf Stream 5G jet. I forgot, he's CEO of U of H Board of Directors!

Sorry, got carried away, by the Devil:wub:

Keon,

Sorry about that-- you have a good looking Family as well.

Will you and the Family by some chance be in Perry or Gillette or both? Would love to meet you and the Family. That boy looks like he would like to ride around on my golf cart. I would be happy to show you'll around either or both Rallies.

Herman

Herman ... Perry would be ideal but time may not let me. I am looking at a potential shoulder surgery and I am not sure when it will happen. I am going to do it long before Joe and I head west but at this point 18 is kind of hanging in the balance depending on how long I can take the pain.

Keon, is that Rotary Cup?  3-4 weeks of PT, but your arm is in a 90 degree sling for a while....hope it's not your dominate arm!

I brock my left wrist last June and was in a to the elbow cast for 8 weeks!  I'm right handed, but I drive with my left.  That was interesting! :P:lol:

Cup ... No its the Cuff, you know that group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint, keeping the head of your upper arm bone firmly within the shallow socket of the shoulder :D

It is the Dominate Arm. Funny, I can bowl with no issues but soon as I stretch the arm out and lift - the DW slept on it the other day, No problem. I tried to sleep on that side and woke straight up and call God by every name I know to call Him. Pills are keeping the pain down but I am hoping I can drive the coach in 4 to 5 weeks after. I am looking at the week of April 15th

Follow your Doctors instructions to the letter and you should be fine.

Good luck.

Herman

Thanks Herman. I will

I suspect you had this problem for a while.  In your part of the Country, unless you really love winter, I would have taken care of that, during Winter.  Not late Spring, Summer!!!  Well, your coach will still be there.  You just won't be able to use it for a while...That might be a good thing!

All you got to do now, is to train DW to sleep on the other arm! :D She'll have to do that later anyway!

Keon,

I have had that surgery on both shoulders.  You will be two weeks in the sling unless your doctor is real aggressive, then you go to PT and that length of time will be at least 4-6 weeks and longer if you don't meet their expectations.  I did ask my doctor after the two weeks if I could drive and he made wheel turning gestures with his hand and said, "Okay."  The exercise of turning the steering wheel is actually good for recovery (According to my doctor)

Okay so I have had two ACL reconstructions, two rotator cuffs repaired and my right knee replaced so I am very familiar with physical therapy.  Here is what I have to say about that.

Only do what your physical therapist tells you to do. If they tell you 5 rotations of an exercise, only do 5 no matter how you feel.  The exercises are to gradually get you back to a "normal" condition. Buy being macho and doing more than prescribed you can damage yourself more. Do what they prescribe at home and do it faithfully.

Start practicing zipping your pants with your non dominant hand NOW.

p.s., I just had carpal tunnel surgery on my dominant hand so I have been doing everything with the other hand. I was able to adapt rather quickly except for chop sticks. Using a spoon with soup I only dribbled a little bit down my chin.

Does Miya count? She's under 20.

Don't have any 2 legged kind though  - well none that travel with us.

To the original poster.  We may not have children that travel with us but we enjoy watching them have a good time. There once was a time when we had them at campgrounds.

There is a learning curve on campground etiquette that needs to be explained sometimes.  Most of the CG's we have been at have well behaved children.

What's with all the running?  I take it that work keeps you from roaming further out into our great, big, beautiful country!?

We run everything from 5k to Half Marathon Races for fun.

Yes work keeps us close to home for now, although last year we went to Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Devil's Tower, and explored Yellowstone for a week. Our next long trip will be to Grand Canyon, maybe 2020, or 2021.

We also love our Disney Vacations, DVC members, love Disney Cruise Lines, next April we are going to Fort Wilderness. So we do a lot of variety for our vacations.

Great to see a family playing together.

Becoming less common these days.

And, heck, most kids you see in vehicles are on their phones/games so they never see the country anyway.

These will be memories both you and the kids will cherish.

Saw Cherry Hill and had to chime in.  I grew up in Cherry Hill and my wife is from Merchantville.  We live in Clermont, FL now.  My wife retired from Disney a couple of years ago at 55 and we often stay at Fort Wilderness.  Love the Wilderness Lodge and especially the Iron Spike room at the villas. If you haven't tried the Geyser Point Bar and Grill yet be sure to try it on your next trip.  The crab cake sandwich is delicious.

Boys just turned 2 years and 5 years.  We base out of Michigan. They love to travel.  it is hard finding FMCA members in our age group however.  :)

bilkish,

Welcome to the FMCA Forum.

Hopefully, you have found other friendly FMCA members you age and certainly other friendly FMCA members your grandparent's age!

Should be able to find "alternate grandparents" at most FMCA events.

And, if you bring roast corn you could end up being the center of attention in any get together.
