Yellowstone Routes with 40' MH

Question

We are going to be in the Yellowstone area this June and are looking for the best route from Thermopolis WY to Island Park Idaho.  We are wondering if anyone could give us advice - we are thinking Highway 26 to 191 through YS might be the best route.  We have a 40' MH and would like to avoid the worse grades (10%).  Is Highway 14 doable from Cody or should it be avoided?

Thanks in advance!

jengle,

14 is very doable. When in Cody be sure and visit the Buffalo Bill Museum. They have a very extensive display of weapons and some of the finest western art on earth. You will need at least a whole day to do it justice.

If you plan on taking advantage of the Hot Sulphur baths in Thermopolis be sure to take bathing suits and towels that you can throw away when finished. You can never get the smell of the Sulphur out of them.

Great tip Herman. That's good to know because we plan on going out to the hot springs at some point. Thanks.

Thanks!  This route will save us lots of time.  Good pointer on the swim suits too,

Jeff and Christine

Having worked there for five years we have been in and out of each entrance, with the exception of the northeast entrance, with the motorhome towing. Plenty of room. Large semis make deliveries every day. The biggest problems will be the "it's all about me" people who decide to stop in the middle of the road and stare at something. The visitation starts picking up in June, the later in June the more traffic there is.

26 to 191 will take you in the south entrance. Enjoy Teton National Park if you go that route.  As previously mentioned, 14 from Cody is a great road.

Don't be in a hurry and enjoy the scenery.
