RV camping in New York City

Recommended Posts

dld0209, Welcome to the forum!

We have stayed here and it suited its purpose;

No FHU but they do offer honey wagon service daily. Convenient to the ferry (across the parking lot) and it drops you at Ground Zero for $7.00 per person

We also had no problems navigating the roads to get there with a 41' motorhome (no Toad). Once we were in NYC we took cabs everywhere.

Not sure if this works for the pets but a KOA in Newburgh is about 40 miles north of the city. They offer bus service and / or tourist packages from the CG. It also alleviates the need to drive through NYC.

Was in NY area once in 1978, stayed in a city park in Bayonne NJ because the chief of police made the arraignments for the foot police to check on us every 15 minutes.  Because our host worked in the World Trade Center we rode the subway into the basement of the WTC.  She had us escorted up to the roof before the general public and there was a small crowd at one corner.  The guy who had climbed the outside of the building to the roof was there re signing his autograph because it faded after a year.  I don't need to go to NYC again as that was enough!  A lot more of the world to see.

Liberty harbor is in Jersey City NJ. You literally drive to the end of the interstate at the light before the Holland tunnel turn right drive to the marina at the end and you are at the campground.

That place was safe, we were next to a marina with 2 Millon dollar yachts and loft apartments on the other side that were probably pushing 3/4 of a million, no riff raft to be seen. The ferry picks you up at the marina.

I have never been RVing near NYC, but we are this summer and did as much research as I could.  We decided on Liberty Harbor RV park as others have suggested.  We have reservations July 4th week so understand the fireworks that night should be spectacular.

I hadn't thought of that before, but yeah I bet they are! Don't get your hopes up too much, its basically a large parking lot with Water and Electric. Here is a photo of our coach in the CG. There was a bunch of construction behind us back then, I'm guessing its completed by now.
