Carbon Monoxide Detector

Recommended Posts

We went to the local box store and bought a battery-powered monitor. No need to wire anything and the batteries in the new ones last a few years. Some of them don't even have changeable batteries - you just replace the whole monitor (which is good because they don't last forever).

Batsome,

They have both types. The box store generally have battery operated or 110 volt with battery backup.  Both are very good for you bricks and sticks structure. However if you want one that is 12 volt with battery backup then an RV dealer might be your best bet.

Good luck and be safe.

Batsome, if you are replacing a factory equipped one in your RV it’s probably 12v. It might also be a dual purpose model that covers propane and carbon Monoxide detection. I upgraded both of ours last year, not cheap but it’s money well spent.

You can order them on the internet.   PPL, Granger, West Marine (what goes in boats, goes in RV's), Camping World.

LP is heavier than air - monitors for LP are mounted near the floor. Carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air, and monitors are typically mounted about 5 feet above the floor.

Don't think it's a good idea to combine both monitors in the same unit.

Whatever you install, make sure it has an internal battery. If it only connects to the 12v house system you will have no protection when your house battery is off or discharged. Carbon monoxide can still build in the coach, from a neighboring vehicle's exhaust or generator exhaust.

Batsome.

Here is why it's important for you to give us, the Make, Model and Year of your coach.  Also, helpful to now if you have built in propane gas tank.
