A coast-to-coast ride like none you've ever done

Question

Hello: I'm part of the Hoosiers Bicycle Racing Team. We will be participating in the Race Across AMerica (RAAM) this June (2010) for the second time. In '07 we raced in the 4-man 60-69 division and won our class while breaking a 12-year-old record. On June 12th we'll leave Oceanside, CA headed for Annapolis, MD. The trip will take about 7 days. Besides the four racers, we'll have a crew of approximately 12 brave souls whose job will be to take care of the riders' every need. The riders will tag-team across the country riding very short "pulls" and moving ahead 24 hours a day. The 4-man team will be divided into two 2-man teams. Each of these teams will ride from time station to time station--a distance averaging about 56 miles. At that point, the second team will take over and ride to the next time station. Each 2-man team will have a team van and a third car will follow the rider on the road. Again, 24 hours a day.

Here's where the FMCA membership comes in: We'd like to find a couple with a motorhome--possibly a medium sized Class C would work best--who would be willing to be part of the crew. The motorhome would act as a mothership and would be used for the crew to rest and recover in when they were off duty. The riders would stay in their team cars. The motorhome crew (owners) would move the mothership up the road to the next time station and help feed the off-duty crew. You would not be expected to pull the normal rider-support crew duty, however if you wanted to join in this activity, that could be arranged as well. You would also need to find shower facilities--campground or motel--for the crew and riders during each day.

RAAM starts in Oceanside, CA on June 12th. We expect to finish in Annapolis, MD on June 19th. Yes, that's 3000 miles on a bicycle in one week. We will pay your expenses during the race. Hopefully, moving from one side of the country to the other would be in your plans already. If not, we could work on that too.

You can learn a lot more about the Race Across AMerica (RAAM) at www.raceacrossamerica.org. On that page, you can click on "Racers" then scan down until you find "Hoosiers" in order to meet us. You can also learn more about the Hoosiers Cycling team at http://hoosierscyclingteam.com/home.htm. While I've been far too verbose already, there really is a lot more to tell about this event. If you have any interest in being a part of this great experience you can contact me at steve.gerbig@hotmail.com. I'd love to tell you more about it. I can assure you that being a part of Race Across AMerica is like nothing you've ever done before. You'll have enough stories to bore all your friends for the rest of your life.
