Trans Oil Filter Warning

Recommended Posts

The "trans oil filter warning" just came up on the display of my 2014 Allegro Red 33aa. Has an Allison 2500 transmission. Is this something I should take care immediately or can it wait? We are about 30 days from home base. Owners manual says I have 100 hours from the time the warning is issued.

It is most likely time and mileage based if it smells ok and clean go home unless it starts shifting funny

That is not warning you of a problem it’s notifying you a service is due.

If it were me I’d have that filter replaced by a local Allison dealer or I’d change it myself and top off the fluid level. The warning/verbiage in the manual is concerning and it’s cheap insurance.

You could also call Allison and get their recommendations from an expert just to be sure it’s ok to drive it home.

Thanks bm02tj and jleamont for your replies. I will be near Athens , Ga so I called the Allison Tech at W.W. Williams and decided to bring it in for service. It has 60k miles on it so it is time.

Send a trans fluid sample to a lab to be tested.  I do it every year, here's who I use:

While that is a good idea it sounds like it is to late. You always want to pull your sample so that you get the results back before you change the oil or the fluid. I would include doing a filter change and replacing the lost fluid or oil.

I have been using Blackstone because they will send you test kits free and you don't pay till you use them. JG makes you pay in advance. It can get costly if you want to keep a couple sample kits on standby.

I sent samples to both a while back just to test and see if there was a difference. Both gave similar reports.
