Our New Holiday Adventures

Recommended Posts

We pick up a new coach to replace the 2006 Holiday Rambler Ambassador PDQ with a 2019 Entegra Anthem 44B leftover.   This is the time where the dealer try to stick us and we try to stick the dealer.  Our trade in got a cracked windshield right before trading in so insurance is sis taking of it on the dealer lot.  What we feel we stuck them with is tires needs replacing (7 years old this summer) disclosed, slide shear bolt that breaks once in awhile, not disclosed, the dash monitor system that disconnected, disclosed but cameras are hooked up and working, the pleated day night shades are mostly shot .  The Norcold 1200 is still installed and working good with ice maker reinstalled made making ice thanks to ARP.   How the dealer stuck it to us?  Warranty on everything for six years and wheels and tires protection.  I haven't read through the contracts yet.  Just sign here and is included in the payments.

We were shopping for new shades closet space for the HR in Quartzite AZ when DW saw the Anthem and fell in love with it.  It was a long hard road to finance it but after taking a second route we pulled it off.  We took delivery of it yesterday and I did the orientation with the dealer mechanic.  I made a punch list with the mechanic of thing that I said that should been done on pre-delivery inspection.   The list include the door stop on middle rest room, toilet paper holder rear bathroom, 1 latch broken on basement freezer, chassis battery has corrosion on ground cable and DEF not filled half way.  There is also 2 open recalls on it, the side warning sensors all 6 has to be replaced for water intrusion, the parking brake might not hold on steep incline.  They don't have the parts needed to fix them.  I have copies of the recalls but not the time to read through them.

On the drive home the dash and mirrors were flashing indicating a vehicle was beside me when there wasn't.  Yes we need those sensors.   We are about 25 miles from the dealer so I drove a little main road, a little turn pike and a little back road.  More quiet and smoother than the old coach but for some reason I was driving more slow than I'm use to.  Taking it easy because I'm scared that I will break something .

Great looking coach. That first drive home is interesting isn't it. My drive home was like yours however we left the dealer later than I would have liked and had rush hour traffic for the trip. I am not shure I got into 6th gear on the way home. Brakes work good.

Huff, One of these days we'll get back to Whidbey Is. Would like to meet y'all and see that beautiful coach.

Or, come on down here to the Gulf Coast, Galveston area and we'll tour you around. Early Spring or late fall/winter. Get away from the snow.

I'm starting to find out what a learning curve is.  Today house batteries were getting low and confused of why.  Seems like what I got away with before isn't going to work now.  The shore line extension cord has loss connection overnight.  Of course I left the fridge running and unknowingly a few lights.  Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can reel the coach cord into the garage.

Today I learned to crack and program a safe.  Now it has a 6 digit pin code and another secrete way to get into it.  I also reprogrammed the keypad on the grab handle at front door.

That's about all I got done today on it.  I brought in a suitcase of manuals in to look through.   It's crazy that everything installed either has a operators or installation manual.  Some of it is condensed into the Entegra owners manual.

We are at stay at home order right now so I have plenty of time to go through everything.

Glad t was something simple and "not in the new coach" I have left the fridge on and the water heater since I got it home. What/how much power do you have available?

Yes you have lots of new reading material.:D

The closest we got to Galveston is Houston, Texas traveling to and from the east coast for the Christmas holiday vacation.  We plan to make that trip this coming Christmas season.  It seems like you would be going a bit out of the way to visit us but we can meet at a nearby large casino parking lot where it's big rig friendly.

Yes the DW scolded me for leaving the fridge on and wasting electricity.  The batteries may had been low when I took delivery as it wasn't plugged in and the fridge was running and all interior lights were on.  Once I knew that it wasn't plugged in I had the mechanic start the generator.

Yes I have lots of material to read as even the dishwasher have a remote.  For now I will hide the suitcase in the left front compartment if it fits.

The next task is install the  water filters as the mechanic wasn't allowed to touch them because of the corona-virus situation.   Maybe today

Installed the filters today and ran water pump to check for leaks.  I didn't want to turn on the fridge yet but will once I get the cord plugged in the garage or run the generator.  Learning the new electric flush toilets.  I told DW as senior citizen we are back to potty training.  🤣

Great! We are typically in the home area from November through April, maybe May. Door is always open, coffee is free for visitors as are other drinks.

When we travel up the Left Coast we stay at military campgrounds so we would be staying at the Whidbey Island NAS CG. Great view across to Canada.

Do you have macerator flush toilets?

The fridge was on then to test the water and staying on to make ice.  Haven''t made ice yet.  Maybe in the morning there will be some.  If not I have to find the manual about turning on and off the  ice maker.

Remind me the next time we are passing your way.  The rear toilet has two buttons on it.  One for quick flush water saver and the other button for larger flush.  If you push both buttons at the same time it empty the toilet for travel.  The front toilet has a fill and flush switch.  To dump you turn the macerator  pump on and pull the handles outside to dump.  It uses a smaller hose than normal.

Thank you to whoever fixed my signature picture as it was glaringly to big.  I was going to ask, really.

No ice this morning so I got the instruction for the Whirlpool fridge out.  It said to turn on the switch and I couldn't find the dang thing.   Finally I took the cover off the ice dispensor  and there it was in the off position so I turned it on.  Must be loading because when I put the cover back on and closed the door it was making all kinds of wacky noises.

I would keep an eye on it and toss out the first couple of batches as you just put new filters in. There is usually some carbon and filter lint washes out the first couple of batches. Probably wouldn't hurt you but looks bad in the glass.:D

What do you mean "It works when you turn it on"B)

I did tossed out a couple cups of water from the water dispenser but yes it will be good to throw out a couple of batches of ice.  I got the dishwasher going, I'm on a roll.

Sounds like regular toilets and not macerator type since you have that outside. My toilets are the macerator. Just pull the dump handle outside and watch just liquid come out.

Let me know when you are passing by.

I manage to get the power cord reeled out into the garage.  It appears that all is okay now.

Does the generator actually have that many hours? Seems high for a new rig.

GE Whole House Water Filtration System

I have a extra filter similar to this one. When I need to change the filter (2) in the coach, I will hook this extra  filter up a potable water hose, put a new filter in the housing and run several gallons of water through the filter to eliminate having to do it when they are in the coach.

I have 1 micron and 5 micron and one in the fridge.  It won't hurt for you to hook that up.  I may still use the charcoal one on the water hose.

I also have a filter for the ice maker in the fridge. I use the filter housing to run the few gallons that are required by the filter manufacturer. I do this before installing the filters so they are cleared.

I do not use a filter on my hose. I relay on the whole house filters to do their job. I don't like to have filtered water sitting in the fresh water tank. That's just me.

We also run our water thru a water softener before it enters house (coach also) .  Puff, what was the odometer reading when you got it?  That gen hour reading is too high to my thinking for a 12-18 month old coach...you got a big service at 1,000 hours!  Don't forget, once the coach arrives at the show, it's hooked up to 50 A.
