I don’t want any part of that and I hope no one I know gets it! Me neither! DW keeps a tight rein on me; I'm 77 W/ 2 open heart surgeries, asthma/COPD/cronic bronchitis, diabetes. I listen to her. My daughter looks after(lives alone) my mom, who is 97 w/dementia, since I can't. My niece(nurse) was hospitalized with this virus, she is completely recovered now. rayin Report post Posted April 18, 2020 The Spanish flu pandemic: https://www.history.com/topics/world-war-i/1918-flu-pandemic Compare that with what's happening now.
richard5933 Report post Posted April 18, 2020 The interesting correlation to the Spanish flu is comparing the results of cities that took action like social distancing and wearing masks vs. cities that did not. https://www.history.com/news/spanish-flu-pandemic-response-cities From this article, it's really shocking the difference between Philadelphia and St. Louis, both in the actions they took and the results they obtained. wayne77590 Report post Posted April 21, 2020 Texas State Parks are going to open. Must wear masks, stay 6 feet apart and no more than 6 in a gathering. Don't know if that applies to State RV parks.
rayin Report post Posted April 21, 2020 Florida re-opened beaches. We flattened the curve, which means it might continue forever, or until a vaccine is approved. OTOH, look at the original SARS virus, huge outbreak, now disappeared. In the meantime I'll stay hunkered down.
thestoloffs Report post Posted April 21, 2020 3 hours ago, RayIN said: Florida re-opened beaches. Not all Florida, Ray, only Duvall County (Jacksonville) is eligible for the hashtag #FloridaMoron! Here in South Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, & Monroe Counties), the beaches are STILL closed because they can't yet figure a way to enforce social distancing for swimmers and sunbathers, and they can't enforce limitations on beach use to solitary exercising or walking without the swimmers "storming the battlements". rayin Report post Posted April 21, 2020 That's what I get for believing what I read on the web. The governor has left re-opening up to local authorities: https://www.visitflorida.com/en-us/current-travel-safety-information.html
thestoloffs Report post Posted April 23, 2020 That's a running battle between the Governor & the local authorities. He can open State Parks with beaches in the middle of a closed city or county's beaches, and thinks he can keep people off the other beaches. Right!
hermanmullins Report post Posted April 23, 2020 What I am noticing now is how testy folks are getting. Here on the Forum. I have seen answers that are almost a challenge to the poster. Angry responses. Remember we are all in this together. One thing we are doing is having dinner with friends. Yes I know it sounds bad, however we feel it is acceptable. There will be 10 of us meeting at our favorite Catfish Restaurant, ordering our favorite meals as take-out. We are all meeting in the back of the restaurants parking lot with our lawn chairs having our dinners and visiting 6 feet apart. I contacted them all and asked if they would like to do it. There were shouts and cheers and rowdy YESES. So let's all do something to sooth ourselves and we will get through this together. Herman
