Medical Question

Recommended Posts

Wife had a Dr. appt. today and the doctor would like her to get her A1C checked in about 6 months. What type of medical facility would be best for when the time comes? Clinic, hospital? worst part is, we don't even know where we're going to be then..............

Have the DR. give her an lab slip indicating the test she requires.  Then she can make an appointment at any lab like Labcorp or Quest for the test.

A1C is a blood test to determine a three month average of the glucose (sugar) level in the blood. You can even purchase a self check kit at most drug stores.

Ask the Dr., if the self test is acceptable for him? If so, you can call the Dr with the results.

Check with your insurance for the nationwide lab network in your plan. Then the doctor can submit the order electronically.  And you can have the test done wherever you are. Unless you are enrolled in a local HMO plan.

That's what I was thinking. We'll see what the insurance company (Humana/Medicare) says when the time comes.
