Avoiding New York City

Question

We will be traveling from Pittsburgh to northern Maine and want to avoid New York City.  Then when we return it will be Maine to southeast  New Jersey.Any suggestion are appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

I would go up and take I-80 across(east) to I-287 over the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge then over to I-95 north.

Where in Maine? Be aware, Going now you better call and see if any place is open.

i personally would avoid 95.  My way would be over to Altoona, 99N to 80E to 84E to 290 in MA to 495 and the 95 to thr coast of Maine.

I95 along the Southern coast of NE can be a nightmare especially Boston.

I didn't find it that bad. But you use the loop around Boston. I used that basic rout when I went from Main down to the Lancaster area this summer.

I like going up thr Delaware Water Gap by picking up 209 to I-84. (222 and 33 come to mind  out of the Lancaster area but it's been a few years). I'm sure you have a better handle on the area.
