Towing A Dodge Caliber

Recommended Posts

Have a 2008 Dodge Caliber 4 cylinder.

Looked at the owners manual and it said you can't use a tow dolly to tow. All four wheels have to be on a flat bed.

Any body know why?

Thanks

Is it all wheel drive (AWD)? If so, there is no way to disengage the transmission from the wheels when towing two down, so you would burn up the transmission since the Dodge's transmission has no way to pump oil when the engine is off.

With Ignition Key

Automatic Transaxle

Front Wheel Drive (FWD) vehicles can be towed with the front wheels elevated or on a flatbed truck (all four wheels off the ground).

All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles must be towed on a flatbed truck (all four wheels off the ground).

Caution!

DO NOT flat tow any vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission. Damage to the drivetrain will result.

That is out of the 2010 owners manual.
