Lest we forget our 58,479 comrades who didn't come home, and those who came home broken and locked up within themselves.

Thanks for posting Ray. What people don't realize is, all of us that served in Nam came home broken in some way, some a lot worse than others

And most of us came back normal and continued on in life to lead successful and worthwhile lives. Yes, it was an experience but not something to cause permanent victim status because you didn’t get a parade. Retired LTC, U.S.A., three tours in Vietnam MACV district advisory team.Twenty seven years in Army.

I would think serving as an officer in an advisory role would be considerably different than the boots on the ground personnel.

Anywhere in VN was a hot zone!

I also kept my head and behind down and came back unscathed, thanks to the Lord I'm sure.

I don't know what your back ground is, but the US had advisors will all the ARVN combat units....and they were "boots on the ground."  I'm an ROTC grad, and one of my assistant PMS instructors, a major, was KIA as an advisor a VN Infantry unit.  I spent two tours, one in the artillery and one flying a Chinook.  Fortunately, both my assignments were with US units.
