I-40 and Highway 69

Question

Last year we traveled from Fort Smith, AR to Checotah, OK on I-40 and then Checotah to Sherman, TX on Highway 69. The roads in places were so rough that our TV vibrated loose. Can anyone give an update on the current road conditions? Thanks, RJ

dbik86i,

I have traveled Hwy 69 in Oklahoma for the last 40+ years. We were on it in the MH the first week in September. I can assure you that it has not gotten any better. Of all the Hwys in OK it has to be the worst.

All long the way you will see the trucks driving in the left lane because it it a little bit smoother, but not much. On our last time through there I told the wife that I would drive to OK City and take I-35 before I would take the MH on that road again, and we live in McKinney, TX.

Hwy 69 is the true meaning of "Shake Rattle and Roll".

We frequently drive Hwy 69 in OK when traveling from Texas to Missouri. I drive at speeds that match the road as much as possible. It surely is rough but there are also other roads that rough in Alabama, Mississippi and other places. Taking Hwy 69 saves me time and money so it is a regular route for us. Our most recent passage was in 2010. I say tighten up the TV!

I always rate the highways in Oklahoma as the worst in the nation and I am originally from Oklahoma. Even some of their toll roads are rough enough to shake a coach apart. Number 2 is Colorado and my own state of Minnesota might be 3.
