Getting Ready To Fulltime

Recommended Posts

Hello from Western PA,

The wife and I are preparing to retire and go fulltime. We have a son living in Florida and a daughter in Alaska so the plan is to travel between the two. The brick house is on the market and the first campground gig starts Nov. 1.

We currently own a 2004 Monaco Diplomat 40' 4 slides and will be pulling the car and Harley behind. Rving is not new to us living in one fulltime well that is going to be new but we both love camping.

Anyways just wanted to say hello and hope to see ya out there.

Wow, your son and daughter couldn't have moved much further apart. That will sure make for some expensive commuting between them. Enjoy your new adventure!

Welcome to the FMCA forum!

We started fulltiming November 2011 and are really enjoying ourselves.

We are currently in Valdez, AK on a trip we have planned for a long time.

Enjoy your travels.

Congratulations on your decision to become a full timer. We have been on the road for 7 years and love every minute. We are originally from S. Calif. and when we sold our home we bought a new 2005 Monaco Knight. We have been to most of the states including Alaska. Can't imagine ever stopping and being in 1 place. We travel with our cat. We are currently in Nashville and will be attending 2 pre-rallies before the International Rally in Indy. Fun, fun, fun!!

My wife and I have just sold our stick house and will be going "on the road" at the end of October. We have been wintering in our 2010 Damon Challenger for the last few years spending about 6 months each time. We are both really physced with the change in our status. We are still in the process of clearing our "stuff". Our house sold in two weeks which we didn't expect but were happy it came so fast. Really looking forward to the full timer lifestyle.

Welcome to all the new full timers. Great to see others explore the advantages of living in a motor home. Two years ago we decided to put a mobile home in the park where we winter each year so that is now our fixed home. Each spring we hit the road and live like a full timer for the summer then return south to enjoy the winter in our mobile home. Our motor home is parked in the driveway so it is never out of our minds. When the temperatures start to rise in the spring we're back on the road again. Even though we have a house now, the motor home still feels like home when we are on the road. We really love the life on wheels. After a while you will feel sorry for your friends who have a fixed home! Be sure to drop by to visit them from time to time!

One thought to add to the conversation. We don't think of ourselves as camping, wherever we go, we are living there. Unlike the days of camping, now we have a more relaxed attitude about our travels. We sometime will spend several days in the motor home just catching up on laundry, sending messages to our children and friends, relaxing and enjoying just being at home. Other times we'll be out exploring new territory. When we don't feel like driving we'll make reservations for a week, several weeks or even a month if a place is really inviting. We have children and grandchildren to visit on our northern travels so we haven't made a habit of parking in one spot every summer as some people do. We have identified several places where we would love to spend summers every year. There is just too much great country out there to explore. Enjoy!

We've been full timers for just over 2 years now. Can't even imagine living in a "bricks & sticks" house at this point. We've been traveling the west coast this year, setting up for a trip to Alaska next year. We plan to spend about 3 1/2 months on that trip.

One thing we've found that works for us, try to stay any where from a week to 2 weeks in one spot. Then we do our sightseeing trips with our car. By staying for that length of time, we don't have to sightsee everyday & we can just kick back & relax in between. Of course, we won't be able to do that in Alaska, but for the rest of our travels it works well. We also don't travel at night. If we find we won't make our destination in the daylight, we try to find a Walmart, truckstop, etc to stay the night. Usually we don't go more than 350 miles in one jump anyway. Happy travels! Enjoy your new lifestyle!

RED

Hello to all....
My wife Cheryl and I bought a 2011 Tiffin RED in November 2011 and have been living in it since. We love it so much we put the brick house on the market and as soon as it sells we will plan our retirement. Hopefully we will be traveling more soon.
