vmelroe Report post Posted February 18, 2013 Can I take a 30 amp shore power cord with 30 amp male and female ends and take the male and female ends off and put 50 amp male and female ends in there place?
rossboyer Report post Posted February 18, 2013 No, a 50 amp power connection requires 4 wires. You can extend your current 30 amp coach cord with the 30 amp male/female cord and then use a 50 amp male plug and 30 amp female to adapt your connection to work on a 50 amp service. You will still only be able to use 30 amps in your coach.
wolfe10 Report post Posted February 18, 2013 Said another way, you can adapt 50 amp shore power down to 30 amp AND can adapt 30 amp shore power to a 50 amp connection, but as Mr Boyer said, 30 amp cords are three wire (one hot, one neutral and one ground). 50 amp cords are larger gauge since they are capable of carrying 50 amps on EACH hot and are four wire (TWO hots, one neutral and one ground).
