New Mexico, Carlsbad and Albuquerque Areas

I like the Enchanted Trails RV Park on the west side of Albuquerque. It is next door to Camping World, close to the Interstate interchange and easy to get to. The camp ground has a nice store and laundry room. It is not far from Old Town. As I recall, it is a Passport America park. There is also a flying J, just one or two exits west.

While in Albuquerque, take time to ride the Tram to the top of Sandia. There is a neat restaurant up there with good food. Go up in the late PM so you can see the sunset from up there and then the lights of the city come on. If you make a reservation at the Restaurant for dinner, then you will get a discount on the tram ride up. The restaurant's name is "High Finance"!

There is a Rattlesnake museum in Old Town, if you like such. A very good Native American museum in the Old Town area also. There is a nice Museum of Atomic Energy near one of the main gates into the Sandia Labs/Air Force base. I believe that it is on Eubank Ave, just a little south of I40.

In the Enchanted Trails lot is a great LPG provider. He does LPG repairs, installs/services satellite systems. Good at many things.

Go across the frwy to Central, follow it down to Rio Grande River, there is the Monte Carlo Steak House (great prime rib on Fri (see review on Dives, Diners & Driveins). Across the river is the Artbortium and Old Town.

If the Village doesn't fit, you might like the Isleta RV park at the South end of Abq by I25. It is adjacent to a Rail Runner station that will take you to central Abq and Santa Fe. About a mile away is the casino. There is a fishing pond at the RV park for the kids. The roads in the park are just ok.

North of Abq, also on I25 in Bernalillo is a KOA. They have movies and popcorn in the summer for the kids. Good size pull thurs and WiFi. The owner is a pretty guy. Also close by to a Rail Runner station. Great restaurants within a mile (try The Range).

Would like campgrounds with full hookup, if possible, and things to do in the area; any recommendations would be appreciated. Also, in the Albuquerque area.

It has been a number of years since we were in the Carsbad area but we were there to go to the Caverns. We stayed at a campground at White City. We then drove the car to the Caverns. It had full hookups. Sorry I can't remember anything more but it was an ok place to stay. The Carsbad Caverns are awesome.

I like Enchanted trails because of the location easy to down town and "Old Town". We stayed at American RV Resort across I-40 but it was 6 years ago nice place but keep coming back to Enchanted trails.

I like them both.  Isleta is nice and quiet, was rebuilt and re opened this June/same with the Casino.  But as a first timer, Bill's choice do get you close to "Old Town" and that is a must see!  Santa Fe is a easy day trip and worth the drive in the toad.

When going to Santa Fe we like Santa Fe Skies RV Park.

For Indian art and jewelry we like Sissel's Fine Quality Indian Jewelry, it's the real deal and good prices.

Last time in SF had lunch at Palacio Café, 209 East Palace Ave, SF NM.

To many great places to eat in SF.

Old town was the draw to Albuquerque after Rudiso. I was hoping for a place with a pool, didn't notice one at Isleta lakes.

Thank you for the day trip to Sante Fe idea, hadn't given that much thought.

I'm not much for pools, but Campground America Resort may have one...it's on top of hill, off of I-40 W.  Also, there is KOA off I-40E close to the Casino!  Of course, every Casino has a pool. If your staying in RV park on casino property, then you have full use of their facilities, Isleta has a pool, gym, spa, buffet and restaurants.

Booked American RV Resort in Albuquerque. The paved roads were the determining factor, and the place looks nice to boot. Our coach is a disaster when rolling into a gravel road campground, looks like a dust storm rolled into town.

Only folks from PA don't know about that Café! :D  I was last in there Oct. of 16.  Parked coach & toad at CW on I-40W and called a cab! Old Town, like Taos and some others can be a real pain to park anything,  I even take a cab from RV parks or get as close as I can with toad...especially on a weekend.

Seeking some advise......we are leaving Amarillo TX on a Wednesday morning that gives me WED, THURS, FRI, SAT and most of SUN to get home which is 26 hours of steering wheel time. Any recommendations along I-40 into TN to I-81 to kill some time. I mentioned Memphis to my DW, she shot that down due to high crime (please excuse the pun :D). I thought maybe spend a day in Nashville TN or Pigeon forge TN, but those are both been there done that spots. Looking for something else....Ideas?

Joe.  Since you got the Jeep, you could take Hwy 165 & 143 to Robersonville, then 143 to 28 back into Tenn.  28 is also known as Tail O the Dragon, all paved roads, in the heart of the Smokies!  The Tail is very famous and scenic, they have guard rails now, it's 318 turns in 11 miles!  I got the T-Shirt.  In June is a perfect time! :)  Goggle it.
