1979 Airstream Excella

Recommended Posts

We have had this unit for over 12 years and use it when ever we can. I bought it at the LA Roadster show swap meet while walking thru the event. I had a 24' Airstream trailer completed but always wanted a Airstream MoHo. It was rough and made the seller an offer. I told him if he could drive it to my home and make it I would purchase it. He made it.

We did a complete mechanical makeover with 502 HD engine replacement, gear vendor and rebuild trans, bigger radiator and everything we could do to make it more dependable. The interior got all new paint, carpet, finishes and every lizard skin sound and heat deadening below the floor.

We have taken it out of state on trips as well as go to many vintage RV events with it. Fun to take out and tows a trailer with a classic car most places. The 502 HD GM crate engine fits well in the P30 Chassis, we put headers and upgrade intake to give more low in torque. It cruises at 70 without trailer with ease and gets 14+ MPG without a trailer. This is a keeper. I just found an 81 280 with Isuzu Diesel in a P30 chassis that would have been a better engine but I am to far down the road at this time. We did add hydraulic jacks as I got tired on the road in the rain placing the screw jacks under the unit, this was a great addition.

ranchmink,

There have to be people out there that hate meeting you going down the highway on a bright sunny day. The glare off that beautiful coach must be really bright.

You should be proud of the work you have done. It would be a nice unit to display at a national rally.

Herman
