Xantrex 458 Inverter Problems

Recommended Posts

Have sent Inverter off to have it looked at. So far they have not found a issue with it. It is not recognizing when it is plugged into shore power, so it draws the batteries down. Batteries on Chassis and House have all been replaced. If they don't find and issue with the Inverter, what might else it be.

ShellysRV,

Welcome to the FMCA Forum.

First step is to confirm that you do have 120 VAC to the inverter from the coach main 120 VAC breaker panel.

There should be a 30 amp breaker in your shore power panel that feeds the inverter. Check to see that has not tripped. I would turn it off and back on.

Also, are you sure that the shore power is getting into the power panel? You may have to take the cover off and check with a meter, but don't do it unless you are comfortable with diagnosing power panels.

George,

Were the ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) not functioning, other 120 VAC appliances would not work either.

Said another way, if both roof A/C's work, you KNOW the ATS is functioning properly as that proves that both hots as well as neutral are functioning from shore power.

This is what they found with the Inverter:

Found that a Fuse was blown, and the fan was not working. Both needing to be replaced.

He also found when he opened it up that an insulator sheet was missing, which protects the Circuit board from metal.

Hopefully this fixes it. It was not original to the RV and had been replaced but I am sure the previous owner didn't look into getting if fixed. Will keep advice above just in case. It was working fined on shore power at my home and when we traveled before we started having issues.

Ok. I guess I need to look into what you are all talking about above. Got the Inverter back hooked up a couple of days ago. I noticed tonight that the "bulk" was blinking red on left side of remote control panel and the fault was "red". So it is still not charging when plugged in. The left side was green and 30 amp (at top) on the share. Any suggestions. Frustrated, want to use it next weekend.

Use a digital voltmeter and check voltage the house battery bank. Many inverter/chargers will not charge if the battery voltage is extremely low.

Let us know what you find.
