Glacier NP (East Entrance) To West Yellowstone-- Best Route?

Taking a trip to both NPs this summer in our 2013 Tiffin 31SA gasser and I would really appreciate any advice or recommendations on the best route to take from St. Mary – East Glacier entrance down to West Yellowstone.

 

Any info on good places to stay along the way appreciated too?

89 to 287 to I 15 then back on 287. That is really your only choice. Just curious, what made you choose to stay in St Mary, MT?

We too are going to Glacier and Yellowstone this summer in our 2013 Tiffin Allegro RED... We have reservations in Yellowstone (9/6-9/9) but want to stay longer and to go to Glacier either before or after...

We were looking at the west side of the park, Big Creek Campground, but really don't know the area.  

Why did you choose St. Mary? Would like to tap in to what you have learned so far...

We visited both Glacier and Yellowstone Parks last fall. We visited just after Labor Day and the traffic was not bad at all. 

We stayed on the west side of Glacier at the KOA, which was absolutely one of the most beautiful RV Parks we have ever seen. Well worth the extra few dollars. Also, it is less that a 10 minute drive to the park entrance, as well as they have Park shuttle bus pickup service that will pick you up at the park office and take you to various sites.

For Yellowstone Park we stayed just outside in West Yellowstone at the Grizzly RV Park & Cabins. Again it rivaled the KOA in West Glacier for cleanliness, great landscaping, and extreme customer care at the front desk by way of giving information and pointers.

One thing we learned in Yellowstone is that even though it was mid Sept. the crowds  were still large enough that virtually all attractions other than the obvious big ones like Old Faithful, were next to impossible to find parking for our toad.  So, if you want to visit some of the smaller exhibits I would suggest you book a park tour as when we drove through various parking lots looking (in vain) for a place to park, there was always room for tour buses to park. Enjoy your trip.
