rvnit4now Report post Posted September 21, 2016 The drive mechanism for the roller tube keeps coming out of the motor on my awning. I have tried reinstalling the drive mechanism into the motor and it will make at most two turns before it slips out again. Has anyone else seen this issue? Will getting a new motor (price between $360 - $600) cure the problem? Any input will be appreciated.
hermanmullins Report post Posted September 21, 2016 rv, What does the maker of your awning say? Give their tech dept a call. It very well could be in the housing and will need replaving. Dollar wise try some RV salvage yards or try calling PPL in Houston they have a great parts dept. Herman
kaypsmith Report post Posted September 22, 2016 I have A&E awnings, one came from the factory doing the same thing that the OP described, I found that an e-clip was missing, replaced that and has worked correctly for 3.5 years now.
rvnit4now Report post Posted September 23, 2016 Where was this e-clip? I currently have the motor off of the awning and if I can just replace an e clip that would be great. Any help would be appreciated.
kaypsmith Report post Posted September 23, 2016 Mine has 3 spiral type gears that rotate around another, all three had an eclip holding them in place of which only one was missing. These gears are located inside the same canister as the motor. What brand and model is your awning? Also the drive mechanism is usually held in place to the motor by a roll pin, at least on the models that I have repaired.
