I posted an invite to everyone to Lone Star's 45th Anniversary Rally in Canton, Texas. We had a great turnout and there were 5 coaches that joined the chapter, and three joined FMCA.

Now I have another invite. (I have been told that Capitols means you are shouting)

IF YOU LIVE IN OR AROUND TEXAS, COME JOIN LONE STAR AT A RALLY. We have 5 Rallies each year, February, April, May, September and December. We always have members going to South Central Area's Six-State Rally. This year we are one of the Host Chapters. So come, relax and enjoy yourself, I will even buy you a peanut or two.

If you would like more information Personal Message me and I will get back to you.

    Regards. :):D

    Herman Mullins

    Vice President

    Lone Star Chapter of FMCA

Where in TX are the rallys held?

This rally is likely one of the best FMCA rallies of the year.  It's well run, it's in a great location and it's done at a great time of year.  If you are anywhere nearby and chose to pass due to traffic I can't imagine what would make you attend a great FMCA rally.

Many folks head from this rally to the "happening" in Quartzsite a week or 2 later.  While I don't get the whole QZ thing, it's a very well attended event as well.

Don't knock the Indio rally if you have never attended.  We loved going year after year after year.

We were there last year and "Q" too.  Had fun at both.  Traffic wasn't too bad.

"  ................... I firmly believe we need to vote with the recommendation of the Board.  They have studied the issues involved and know the subjects much better than I could ever do so nor want to do so at this stage of my life.  I believe they are good well meaning people who want the very best for this organization................... "

Sundance, here is the problem with your analogy. There was zero study done on the subject of "recreation vehicles" becoming a part of FMCA. From here on out, I'll use "towable". Not one towable club or manufacturer was contacted about this endeavor, not one. This was brought about by one person and one only. In fact this person, at one of his rallies had a towable show up. He took his treasurer over to the trailer and told him he was not welcome and the treasurer wrote a check for the rally fees and he was told to leave. Now all of a sudden he thinks this is the greatest idea since sliced bread.

Another example of the executive board using bad judgement is the giving of $250,000 to the owner of rVillage, a facebook wanna be. The so called details of the gift is that FMCA will supposedly receive 5% interest on the money OR the owner has the option to issue FMCA stock in the company which is supposed to happen in 2019. This info was found out when I requested a copy of the current annual audit. It had to be covered there to justify the $250,000. You might think this is great in that we will get something however our investments are regulated by our Policy & Procedures. Those tell the organization what investments can be invested in. One that we cannot invest in is private stock. rVillage is not listed on any stock exchange. During the last GB meeting I questioned the then treasurer about the 5% interest and had we received it yet. The treasurer informed the entire GB that the "money is gone". Not one member of the GB stood up and raised any issue with it.

Any member can get any document from FMCA by calling and asking to talk to "membership services". You can get meeting minutes from any meeting, monthly treasurer reports, etc.

Boy!  this solidifies my NO vote.

  4. Being new to RVing, one of my concerns has been maintenance of the tires and in particular, how to monitor the tire pressure. I purchased a tire pressure monitoring system then quickly realized that access to the valves on the rear four wheels was obstructed...that the outside rear tire stems pointed inward, and the inside rear tire stems could not be reached. I investigated valve stem extensions. I'm receiving alot of free advice, from don't install them to only use straight extensions on the inside wheels. Even tire stores are reluctant to install extensions it seems.

What can you tell me about what to do about this? I feel that especially with the rear tires, I have to insure that I monitor the pressure, as I could easily have a leak or flat in a rear inside tire and probably not even notice it 'til the outside tire blew.

After having problems with the pressurized braided estensions, I went with the solid unpressurized extensions with no more problems. I use the valve caps that you do not remove for testing. Now have 166,000+ miles on my 94 Bounder.

  5. Hi. I just ran into a situation.

I set up my '63 Ford Fairlane 500 to use as toad. Guess what -- it refuses to follow the motorhome. I mean, it won't. Turn right, and it locks wheel to left! Try left, and it does the same thing. I rode in the car and could pull the wheel back but only with considerable force. Tried the bungie cord but no luck there, either, as it just turned anyway! You could hear the tires screech for several blocks when we tried a corner!

I have seen many older cars, especially Mustangs, being towed. I called a hitch outfit and they said, "Oh, yes, many old cars aren't towable." I don't buy this. Anyone know anything about this? I question if it isn't an alignment problem? But the car drives beautifully, handles well, and is very nice! It's a shame that when it's set up with the tow bar equipment I can't tow it. It would make a very cute tow car.

The wheels don't follow the car like usual when towing four wheels down. The Fairlane is actually pulled sideways by the motorhome on the corner -- can actually see the wheels sliding to the side. Anyone have any good thoughts on this?

Many years ago, I towed a Falcon, had the same problem except it had manual steering. A bungee cord solved the problem. I think your problem may be radial tires. If you had the bias tires, I think it would track ok. We do antique car tours, but I haul them in an enclosed trailer.
