This is my 1st post, please go easy on me. I'm in the process of setting up a (new to me) low mileage 2015 Cherokee Trailhawk V6. It is not equipped with a tow package. It will be towed with a 40' diesel pusher.
I will have the Mopar Flat Towing Harness installed by a dealer. Presently, I'm planning on a Blue Ox base plate & a Blue Ox Patriot 3 supplemental braking system which I will install myself. I also want to add a tow hitch. I know I will be limited to towing 2000 #'s or less.
My first question regards a wiring harness I can purchase that incorporates both trailer lighting ( for the trailer), as well as, lights for the toad & supplemental power to the Patriot 3 braking system. So far, my search has not turned up one which will do both. If the answer is; I will need to buy one of each (battery charger too) to accomplish this, that's OK. I'm just looking to see if others were more successful in finding this item than I was.
My second question concerns the process of getting ready to tow the Trailhawk. In reading the owners manual, it appears there are around 18 sequential steps one must go thru to get the drive train ready to tow. These steps involve starting/stopping the engine, activating/deactivating the electronic parking brake, depressing/releasing the foot brake, selecting neutral in the transfer case and steps where the transmission is placed in neutral, reverse and finally in park. There are another 5 or 6 associated with the fuse and the Flat Towing Harness. At this time, I assume the Patriot system is then placed in front of the drivers seat & goes through its set up where the brake foot pedal is depressed (how could it be accomplish prior to this process?). With all the computer controlled 'stuff' on this vehicle, it seems to have a mind of its own at times locking doors unexpectedly and the application of the electric parking brake. I've read in the manual that some of this activity can be turned off. I'm still learning.
For those who are towing a 2014 - 2018 Cherokee Trailhawk, I would be most interested if you would share your experiences along with any recommendations. I've gone through this forum, as well as, others. Flat towing experiences with this vehicle seem to range from; no issues, or, it was my worst night mare.
Thanks is advance for any input.
