  1. I thank you all for your responses. It is so nice to hear from the wisdom of age and experience. Yes, I am rather old too, but not as experienced, LOL. Ours is a C class and intend to use it for TV and a place to sit while flooring being replaced in the house, then off to a campground in MN next week. Be well everyone, and enjoy the changing season.

  2. Has anyone any recommendations regarding OAK PLANTATION CAMPGROUND, near Charleston, SC?  We are looking to spend about a week in the area when our grand daughter gets married next May, and her Fiance graduates from The Citadel.  All recommendations are welcome.  Thanks in advance.

  3. My wife used the induction cook top for most of February. Bought a 3 quart pot w/lid, and a frying pan. She hadn't used the three burner, propane range in a number of years. Induction cooker seems to work very well. It is cooler in the house without the propane burners on, and the device is quite efficient. Also being used is the microwave and an electric frying pan. The frying pan was used much less since the induction cooker has been in use. The only downside that we notice is this: for some reason, and we suspect sound, our dog, a Springer Spaniel, starts to bark when the device is started. We suspect that it makes a sound that our ears cannot detect, but his can. The quality of the food, and the speed in which it is cooked is much faster than traditional methods. Glad that we bought it, and we're sure it will be used a great deal. Hope this info helps others.

  4. We are about one week in to the use of the NuWave Induction Cooktop, and also bought a 3qt, pan and a skillet (from two different sources), and my wife, who is our cook, is really liking it. We also have, and have used very often, a Presto electric skillet, a couple of inches deep. There is very little likleihood that the three burner propane range cooktop will be used again. She may want a larger pot and may also add a small size slow cooker (the one we have at home is too large for this little rig).

I fully expect she'll use the induction cooktop in the house when we get back home. Thus far we call it a good buy. Will try to follow up after a few more months go by. Thanks again for the good input.

  5. Thanks for the great responses. Expect delivery tomorrow at the RV campground where we are spending the month. Also ordered a pot so we can try it out before we buy more pots and pans. Looking forward to delicious meals without the use of propane.

    Happy Valentine Day to all.

  6. Topsail is not too far from Panama City to the south/east, and Destin to the norht/west. When we visited the last couple of weeks, there were a number of big rigs; motor homes and fivers. Most of those were in back-in sites with ample room for tow dolly or toad. Shopping, restaurants, supermarkets very close by. Park is quiet, and really quite nice. Only downside, for us, was the cost, as we found it on the high side, though the upsides far outweigh that one thing.

The week before we went to Topsail, we stayed at Grayton State Park, about 8-10 miles away. Smaller park, some without sewer. Comfortable, quiet, and pleasant. Also reasonably close to shopping, etc. Our site was level, pea gravel, electric, water, and sewer, picnic table and enough room to stow our dolly. Big rigs seemed to be there as well. Would stay at either of these nice places again.

Hope this info helps. Safe travels.

  7. We're interested in hearing about experiences using Induction Cooktops and appropriate cookware. Anybody cooking with these?

They seem to be more useful than propane stove top burners. Would really like to hear from those using this method.

    What manufacturer?

Too much draw on electrical system (we have 30 amp service)? TIA.

  8. We left Topsail yesterday and moved further west to a commercial campground for the month of February. Our stay at Topsail was really very nice. Full service, ample spaces, quiet surroundings; all in all, a pleasure. Downsides: little sunlight in the area we were in, many lovely trees. A number of spaces are under construction/rebuild. Our space had a great deal of broken concrete, easy to trip on at night. Light standards by every space, though not all were working. Found two weeks there to be more costly than one month where we are now. Would stay there again.

Prior to staying at Topsail we visited Grayton State Park, about eight miles from Topsail. We were there for a week. Smaller campground and our site had water, electric, and sewer. Some spaces don't have sewer. Nice place to kick back for a while and we'd stay there again.

Thanks for the Topsail recommend. Now working on next winter stay. Alabama? Mississippi? Texas? Back to Florida? We'll see.

  9. Be aware of I-5 in Southern California, in the area south of Bakersfield, called "The Grapevine". Used to be one could chain up to traverse it, for several years, if it gets bad, it is closed to all traffic by CHP. Have taken I-5 more times than I can remember, but not in a motor home. Would question Rte. 101 in winter in motor home. Safe travels and hope the wind is at your back.

  10. Many of the things mentioned were actually items I would do. Thanks Nitehawk and WhiteEagle. We've set up cameras that send us an alarm on our cell phones if there is an intrusion. Police will be notified, and neighbors and family as well. Didn't know if I would shut off water to the house, but now I will. Like Fleet Farm more than Menards, so will pay them a visit. Valuable papers always go with us, along with powers of Atty, etc. This will be our second winter up here in the frozen tundra and want to go where there aren't any snow blowers. Hope my son-in-law will take care of our snow before we return. No sidewalks, so no fines for not shoveling.

Thanks again, fellow travelers. Be well.
