  1. Thanks for the email. We had the same experience with our dog Dale.... it took a few days at the beginning of the trip for him and us to get his daily routine adjusted... and part of that meant not running out of the RV when the door was opened... the times we did get to a dog run and he could run without a lease he got to the point where he would do his business, sniff around a while and come back to me for his lease... I think the lease provides security to dogs.

    Congratulations on your adventure.

Yesterday, July 14, 2009, we just finished an 89 day trip that began on April 17, 2009, through 14 states and 20 layovers. We are also still talking to each other. I think the dear wife is looking at heading out again in September. I'm ready. Our Dog Miya is enjoying the large fenced in yard. We kid with her and say, "It's time to go for a walk." Open the door, let her out and close the door. She looks back over her shoulder as to say, "What! No Leash!"

  2. Hi Tip70775

To keep it short.... Both of us are in our late 60's, Trudy continues to work part time... and I'm ending a long time career at the end of July. Sometimes I get stressed and anxious about the retirement and so I may get pushy about maintaining schedules and staying productive every minute of every day. I.e., up at 6 am and ready to go do something by 7 am... to keep the mood relaxed and fun during the trip I had to learn to relax, and not over schedule each day.... for example, I knew that every other day was "hair day" for Trudy.... which meant I should not plan any activities (going places) until about 11 am.... and Trudy was flexible...

As a workaholic for 50 years... slowing down has been difficult for me.... but there are not many other options.... Trudy and I both plan to continue to work but at something where we can manage our time.

In my opinion and after talking with a lot of folks on the road... we have to keep the RV trips fun and stress free... but that does take some work.... otherwise who wants to sit in a RV day and night with a grouch or a stressful atmosphere.

Even Dale the dog needs his time outside.

I'm not saying we are perfect... however, learning to be more mellow is a good thing.

Congrats. We are newbie owners and made a couple short trips (14 days at CWS in Omaha) and 5 days in SanAntonio but working on a 30 day trip with the less than enthusiatic wife. She made the 5 day but just the boys and I did the CWS. She's skeptical at best as to making it on anything longer than a week. She's afraid she'll be bored as we are both workaholics now. We did do 2 two week trips in a friends Am Eagle before we bought but she's yet to commit to a long trip. Any suggestions?

  3. Hi Gloria,

Trudy enjoyed your comments... she explained who Jay was to me. And Avanti cars were awesome!

Anyway, as you have probably gathered, each blog entry is listed on the right side of the blog page. This FMCA blog software is not the best there is, but it will do the job.

We leave this coming Saturday, May 30...

    Trudy says Hi,

    Love from us,

Trudy, Doug, and Dale the Dog

    Dear Trudy & Doug:

This will be such fun reading about your cross country adventure! When I was married to Jay, we crossed the country from Indiana to California! Jay was pulling our trailer and I was driving our Avanti car! I am not sure if you have actually left yet but will keep checking your Blog!

I sent a Birthday card and check to your house, Trudy, for Lexi! Wasn't sure that I had her correct address!

So have a wonderful trip and I have so enjoyed what has been written so far - great sense of humor!!

    Love,

    Gloria Wolper

You may want to check out Ebay for a tow dolly. I bought a 2008 TowMaster last fall for about $800. It was in perfect conditon and have gtten my money's worth our of it in about 6-months. I saw the same cost for renting a tow dolly from U-Haul for a trip to Florida. Neither of my cars can be a toad, so the tow dolly has worked out great.
